I sometimes forget how enjoyable John was to watch the first time I saw him. His shows are still enjoyable and his now-familiar patter between songs -- it reminds me of a family dinner when a relative recounts a tale, that, even though you've heard it over and over, is still funny. It's that way because it has become a part of you, too. I get a kick out of taking someone to see John who has never seen him perform, just to see the reaction. I will never forget how my friend Dianne cried when he sang "The Water is Wide." Knowing John can touch people this way is what makes me return to see him again and again. A fingerstyle guitar solo would have been a rare treat indeed! A fingerstyle guitar solo would have been a rare >treat indeed! LOL - hard to say really what he meant by it all, other than to be funny. John just kind of launched into a minute or so of fingers everywhere, staring intently at the guitar. He stopped suddenly, and "named" the piece, and said laughingly that he didn't think he'd record that one. Could have been totally improv. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Feb 1999 20:12:44 -0500 From: "Ethan & Summerset Banks" Subject: BTW - No Pix I did mention that I would have pictures from the show. Unfortunately, the Somerville Theatre did not allow any recording equipment or cameras into the auditorium. So no luck there. Now I have a roll of 800 speed film I don't know what to do with. Most of the pix I shoot are outdoors. Oh, well. Ethan Banks in Manchester, NH ICQ: Ethan-15759236 ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V2 #20 *******************************
