Overall, it was a very good show with several highlights and a song that was new to me. Andy = Andy Stochansky on drums Jennifer = Jennifer Kimball on background vocals 1. Silence (John/Guitar) Perfect opening song for the show. This was the first time hearing this song live, please John keep this song in your play list. The first of 5 songs from Jack's Crow. 2. I'm From New Jersey (John/Guitar) Great crowd pleaser, appeared to be a good number of people who had never heard this song before. 3. Peace On Earth (John/Guitar) John said that he and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow had written, the song, but don't go looking for it on any record, it was their only collaboration. If John is to every to make a Christmas record I hope he includes this song, as it is terrific. 4. I Saw A Stranger with Your Hair (John/Guitar) 5. Where the Bottles Break (John/Guitar and Andy) Great song to introduce a percussionist, fast and rocking. 6. Cypress Trees (John/Guitar and Andy) This song is fast becoming one of my favorites. John's guitar and Andy's drums works particularly well on this one. 7. Branching Out (John/Guitar, Andy and Jennifer) Funny commentary, about John writing this song and how it has become a kids song, but it was never intended to be a kids song. 8. Down In the Milltown (John/Piano, Andy and Jennifer) 9. Houses in the Fields (John/Piano, Andy and Jennifer) 10. Blue Chalk (John/Piano, Andy and Jennifer) 11. When the Ice Goes Out (John/Guitar and Andy) 12. Thorny Patch (John/Guitar and Andy) John told us he was surprised to hear Andy say that the song is in 7/4 time, he never knew it. 13. Wisdom (John/Guitar and Andy) 14. Semper Fi (John/Guitar) 15. When He Cries (John/Guitar) The crowd loved this one. 16. January Floor (John/Guitar) 17. St. Caffeine (John/Guitar and Andy) Another crowd pleaser. Introduced as his only religious song for the evening. Played very fast. 18. Silvertown (John/Guitar and Andy) 19. Lightning's Blues (John/Guitar, Andy and Jennifer) Always a favorite. The trio really shined on this one. 20. Let Them In (John/Guitar, Andy and Jennifer) I was not familiar with this song, but it is a very beautiful song. It is a prayer to St. Peter to allow people into heaven. It appears to be only on a Red House sampler CD called "House on Fire II". Does anyone have this CD? The show lasted approximately 1:30. - -- Chris ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Dec 1998 00:31:10 EST From: ThePsyche@aol.com Subject: Re: Wolf-trap VA, 12/3/98 Setlist and commentary haviland@erols.com writes: << 20. Great review, so thanks for sharing. As for Let Them In Peter. David WIlcox has recorded this song and that is where I first heard it. The story attached to this song is that a friend of John's gave him the words. It appeared to be a poem and was written during World War II. The friend's Mother was a nurse in the Philippines during the war and it is unclear whether it was written by a nurse or a wounded solider. John worked on the words and the result is that song. Pretty cool story huh? I do not have that sampler CD, and to me, the Wilcox version is enough to have and listen to. Hearing John do it occasionally in concert is a wonderful thing to look forward to. Any encores in this show?
