For the discussion group contributor who is attending the show this week at Wolf Trap, it was there that I first heard Lucy Kaplansky perform solo to open John's show. She came on with him to sing harmony later in the program. Also on stage were John Jennings, who produces and occasionally plays on John's later recordings, and Michael Manring, who has played bass on several Gorka albums. This was a truly memorable performance. When Gorka is in the Philadelphia area, he often has appeared with Karen Linn, an excellent violinist. And with regard to his shows at Godfrey Daniels, I also attended the show where he sang "Prom Night in Pigtown" with Trout Fishing in America. At still another Godfrey Daniels show, he performed with Susan Lindfores and Hugh Blumenfeld singing backup. - -- Jay Votel eer20@hermes.cam.ac.uk wrote: > I'm posting to echo Kris' sentiment -- Lucy Kaplansky really does > compliment John's voice and songs really well. I've only seen John 4 times, but I have never seen him with anyone else. Now at one show, Catie Curtis opened for him, but other than that it's just been him and his guitar and the piano. I kind of like it that way. Would I like to see him perform with anyone else? Yes. I have heard tales of that Winter Night's tour (or what ever it was called) and of John and David Wilcox and Christine Lavin....now that makes me wish and covet and wonder. I have a dream concert in mind for David Wilcox, I hope to one day see him perform with Tom Prasada Rao. Christine Lavin I get to see for the first time in January. But John.......it would be nice to hear him and Lucy Kaplansky harmonize and interact, but there is not any one person I would like to hear him with....mostly I would just like to sit down and listen to John play ever song he knows. Yep, that would be the dream Gorka concert for me. John Gorka singing every single song he ever recorded and a dozen or so of the ones he has not recorded. I would even volunteer to hold up the little CD covers so he could read all the words. Damn, I am getting some pretty good mileage out of that trip to Pittsburgh! I hope the concert next weekend generates as much conversation. Adios for now, Bryn ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V1 #46 *******************************
