Dear Friends, Yesterday I recieved a post from a woman on another list wondering if anyone knew what happened to John Gorka? He apparantly did not show up at a gig at Zydeco's on Thursday night and the venue manager gave know explanation. I have suffered two great losses in five months time and John's music has helped me through both. The thought of anything happening to John sent me into full panic mode. So I waited until night and called the number for Eddie's Attick, the place he was scheduled to perform at. When the man answered he put me on hold. While on hold I managed to elevate my panic to soaring heights imagining that they are swamped with calls and angry people wanting their money back because John did not show again!!!!!!!!! Then came the click and a very up and chipper voice saying,"Eddie's Attick can I help you?"(with not a hint of strain). I asked hesitantly if John Gorka is playing tonight. And then he said the magic words "Yes he is playing as we speak." With that my respirations and heart rate began to slow their pace and I relaxed. So, anyone else out there was wondering, he's OK. (Sorry, 2nd attempt) Shirley (& all), Sorry about that other message, my email server shut down on me, and for some reason just sent this message, but ONLY WITH SHIRLEY's ORIGINAL TEXT. Weird. Anyway, Shirley, I just wanted to thank you for the kindness of letting us all know John was O.K. I also wanted to share my sympathies with you, as I'm sure many here do. I lost my Dad in '95, and know how hard the loss of someone dear is. The Catielisters have been sharing how powerful music is to help you through pain and loss, with a woman who recently lost a dear friend. I think folk artists (and listeners) appreciate that A LOT. I wanted to tell you, as I did the people on Catie Curtis' list, about an album by Beth Nielsen Chapman. It is called "Sand & Water", and deals with the grieving she went through with the loss of her husband. But the messages of hope and healing she shares on that album are very universal. It is a beautiful album. I only got it recently, so I cant speak to how it would have been to listen to those songs when my pain was still raw, but I think it would be a source of great comfort. I hope you are finding that comfort from friends, family, and God if he/she is a part of your life. Warm Prayers, Amy Amy E.
