"Silvertown" reminds me of Gorka's earlier songs about Southside Bethlehem and it has some allusions to his "crime and punishment" series of songs. It's not quite "Where the Bottles Break" or "Down in the Milltown," and I doubt it has the staying power of either of those two songs. But it provides a good counterpoint to the more upbeat songs on "After Yesterday." Favorites, anyone? - -- Jay Votel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Oct 1998 11:43:12 -0800 (PST) From: Mary A Larson Subject: Re: Favorite song on "After Yesterday" I think "Silvertown" is one of my favorites, too, but I'm biased. When he was playing in Carson City (nearby to Reno, for those of you who don't live in Nevada) he said that he had written "Silvertown" after his last trip here. So, local loyalties prejudice me somewhat. I'm also a fan of some of his darker songs, having gotten on the Gorka bandwagon really early on when much of his material was a little more somber. That's not to say, of course, that I don't like his upbeat stuff. It's just what you're used to, I guess!
