I look forward to many thoughtful (and occasional twisted) insights concerning the music of John the Gorka. I discovered his music about 4 years ago on a compilation Cd from Live at Mountain Stage radio show. The song was Gypsy Life and it really hit home and spoke to some stuff happening in my life then. I was instantly hooked. That song still ranks high as one of my favorite tunes, especially when I hear him do it live. My favorite song/CD changes weekly, depending on which one I have in the changer. I look forward to writing and getting to know you other Gorkanatics. And thanks to Chris for coming up with this good noise. Ok, maybe I have gotten myself all hyped up for a really cool discussion list about Gorka....but so far.... :::::::::drumming fingers on the desk::::::::::::: Good noise? I don't think so......more like *Into her Silence* WHoa Whoa, the ace of spades, turned upside down. Where is everyone? Adios, Bryn ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Sep 1998 00:04:07 EDT From: Hamptontom@aol.com Subject: New John Gorka album and songs... Hi All! My first posting...and oddly, you guys have been so quiet that when I opened the posting from Bryn I had forgotten I had subscribed....... Thought I'd mention that I saw John at Godfreys' a couple of months ago. Jackie Tice, who is on the same management roster as I am, was opening, so we made a point of getting to the show. (for those of you who haven't seen Jackie or heard her brilliant record "Blue Coyote", do yourself a favor and seek it out. We were doubly blessed and got to see Jackie with her husband Jesse on guitar....) John played one song that he mentioned would be appearing on his upcoming Red House album - the song was called "Cypress Trees", and seems to be a reflection on his new family (John is a dad now, for those who didn't know)...."maybe we'll grow together like Cypress trees..." He's still a master of the sublimely turned phrase. Tom Hampton Philadelphia, PA ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V1 #4 ******************************
