1. ABOUT GOOD-NOISE
==================
GOOD-NOISE is a mail list for fans to meet and discuss the music of
the singer/songwriter  John Gorka.  All are welcome on the list, but
it would be great if we all adhered to the guidelines in section 4.

This list is available in both regular and digest format. "Regular" 
means that individual messages will be sent to you as soon as the
list server receives them.  "Digest" means that the list server will
compile all list messages and send them to you as one long message,
either every 24 hours or when a certain size quota is reached,
whichever happens first.  See Section 3 for instructions for
switching between regular and digest formats.

GOOD-NOISE was established on July 24, 1998 by Chris Thorpe
(haviland@erols.com).  Thanks to the folks at smoe (smoe!) for giving
this list a home.

2. EMAIL ADDRESSES TO REMEMBER
==============================
There are three main email addresses to be aware of:

1) GOOD-NOISE@SMOE.ORG - This is the list address.  Any mail sent here
                         will automatically be forwarded to all members 
                         of the mailing list.

2) MAJORDOMO@SMOE.ORG - All majordomo commands should be sent here.

3) OWNER-GOOD-NOISE@SMOE.ORG - All mail sent here will automatically
                               be forwarded to the list owner.

Majordomo commands can also be sent to good-noise-request@smoe.org or
good-noise-digest-request@smoe.org, provided you know the correct
command syntax.


3. COMMON MAJORDOMO COMMANDS
============================
This is a list of some of the most commonly used majordomo commands.
These commands should be sent, in the BODY of an email message, to
majordomo@smoe.org.  Where indicated, replace "<your email address>"
with your actual email address.

1) To join the regular version of the list:
        subscribe good-noise <your email address>

2) To leave the regular version of the list:
        unsubscribe good-noise <your email address>

3) To join the digest version of the list:
        subscribe good-noise-digest <your email address>

4) To leave the digest version of the list:
        unsubscribe good-noise-digest <your email address>

5) To switch from regular to digest:
        unsubscribe good-noise <your email address>
        subscribe good-noise-digest <your email address>

6) To switch from digest to regular:
        unsubscribe good-noise-digest <your email address>
        subscribe good-noise <your email address>

7) To find out who is subscribed to the regular list:
        who good-noise

8) To find out who is subscribed to the digest list:
        who good-noise-digest

9) To order the information file for the list:
        info good-noise

10) To order a help file on majordomo commands:
        help

4. BASIC POSTING GUIDELINES
===========================
These guidelines are intended: 
   a) to try to maintain the friendly atmosphere of the list; and 
   b) to try to keep the list somewhat on-topic

Note: that they are only guidelines not unbreakable rules,
and so can be treated with a certain amount of leeway.  This doesn't
mean you can ignore them entirely though!

1) Be nice (we expect everyone to follow this one!)
   After all the list is call GOOD-NOISE.
2) Have fun (ditto)
3) Don't be afraid to post off-topic material if you think it's
        relevant, but
4) Personal messages should be sent via private email
5) Don't flame to the list, even (especially!) in the case of spam
6) Don't forward attachments, chain letters, virus warnings, cookie
        recipes or other messages of this type to the list

This mailing list is NOT moderated.  However, majordomo has some
built-in filters which may forward your mail to the list owner for
"approval" before it is distributed over the list.  Messages which
may require approval include:
   - very long messages
   - messages that the list server mistakes for spam
   - messages containing the words "subscribe" or "unsubscribe"

Messages which are  helded for approval will be processed as soon as
possible.


5. A MESSAGE FOR NEW SUBSCRIBERS
================================
If you are joining this mailing list for the first time, then welcome
to our community!  We look forward to your input.  Don't be shy about
stepping forward to introduce yourself to the list, or about asking
questions.
