Let me start off by saying that I thought her first two albums were revolutionary..."The future of the funk" is an understatement. When Bitter first came out - - I was hoping for more of the same, but the early reviews often told of a different story...a concept album that expressed deep emotional issues and feelings. The disc IS off the hook, just not the funk hook. My point is that fans of Bashir's funk will not return home with a sour look. Even though most of the music she played was from the new album, there was a deep pocket in every song. And you all know that she can't pick up that bass without droppin some serious notes. There was a new bassist to the group (I forgot his name), and although you could tell his main flav was more on the jazz side, he accented the group perfectly. I can remember closing my eyes and drifting through the music... hearing Meshell drop simplistic grooves around and thoughout Gene Lake's giant beats. As I opened my eyes the first thing I saw was that scrunched up face you always see on the bass player when there is a deep groove goin on. Meshell had that look at least once in every song she played. Anyways... I babble over my recent joy. Funk fans - this woman is a treasure and must be treated as such. Help her. Buy her music. See her shows - so that her music can touch others and sparks a flame that ignites another George Clinton, another Bootsy, another Prince, or maybe even another Bashir. Love, peace, and unity Juice BTW - I just had to brag that I got her to sign one of my on a disc covers! ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
