I actually like the song. Not enuff to purchase it, but I like it. But damn, is it the only video in rotation? One day it was the last video on Video Virbrations and the first video on HitList which followed it immediately. Can we say overkill? And that's totally off-topic. Sorry y'all. The only station I consistently listen to is PBS radio. Unfortunately they only program music on the weekends. This past weekend they did play "Grace", and they have played a couple of other old songs by Me'Shell that don't usually get airplay. And Black radio is in just as sad a state as any of the other stations. Nobody wants to break from the cookie cutter norm. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Aug 1999 14:51:40 EDT From: Snow2iger@aol.com Subject: Re: god-shiva-digest V2 #47 << The only station I consistently listen to is PBS radio. >> I meant NPR (National Public Radio). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Aug 1999 21:39:22 -0700 From: Mike Theiss Subject: Me'shell appearance on Rahzel's new album Rahzel "Make the Music 2000" MCA Records Released today 8/10/99 Rahzel is the vocal percussionist a.k.a. human beatbox from The Roots. His solo album is truly unique. As far as I'm aware, this is the first solo album centering around a human beatbox. Naturally, there's lots of solo Rahzel doing what he does best (beatboxing), and a wealth of guest appearances. Rahzel even raps on a number of tracks. There is also some interesting recording and production techniques --- such as Rahzel's voice being sampled, processed and played back to immitate instruments, such as a Fender Rhodes. Of course, "Steal My Soul" is of interest to this list because it features vocals by Me'Shell. The rest of the track is done entirely by Rahzel (using his mouth) with the exception of a saxophone, played by Branford Marsalis. "Steal My Soul" is among my favorite of Me'shell's guest appearances (I could see this on one of her albums if that says anything). The album also features Erykah Badu, Q-Tip, Slick Rick, Aaron Hall, Vinia Mojica, Kenny Mohammad the Human Orchestra and of course members of The Roots. If you're a hip-hop fan, purchasing this album shouldn't be a decision you have to think about. If you despise hip-hop, you'll still probably be happy if you buy it just for the Me'shell track (I imagine you'll probably like one or two other songs too...) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Aug 1999 21:40:10 -0700 From: Mike Theiss Subject: Single release? Awhile back, someone here said that the single for "Bitter" was scheduled for release in July (I think 7/20). Was this a commercial single release or was that the date the promo single was supposed to be released? Haven't seen any singles anywhere and the local Tower knew nothing about a single release, they just told me the album release date when I inquired. ------------------------------ End of god-shiva-digest V2 #48 ******************************
