I, for one, am excited with the direction Jonatha is taking with her music. I think it all started with "Crumbs," which marked the beginnings of her standard guitar setups and a progression into a fuller, more fleshed-out sound that really and truly rocks. "Red Dress" and "Linger" were new-song favorites, and she and the backup band honestly derived pleasure in making great noise. Ingrid was stuck in Chicago, so there were no beautiful harmonies, but Jonatha captivated nonetheless. She was wearing a baby blue sweater and some "Fred Segal pants", according to someone who accosted her while she was at the supermarket that afternoon. She also recounted some funny stories about her nanny days, and the joys of listening to LA's hip-hop station. All in all, a solid show--only one new song since the last time I saw her in December--an as yet untitled song she fondly nicknamed "Love Tunnel." Here's the set list: Glass Half Empty (I never liked this song, but it has grown on me live) Blood from a Stone I'll Take it From Here ("Felicity will use it someday, I hear," she joked) Red Dress (still my fave new song, although Linger is right behind) West Point Love Tunnel Linger Is this All So Much Mine Your House How Deep is Your Love Landmine She then signed my Plumb CD with the note--"play this one loud." If there are any specific questions, let me know. - -- Derek - ---------------------------------------------------------- HELP! owner-full-fledged-strangers@smoe.org Send mail to full-fledged-strangers@smoe.org ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Feb 2000 21:11:37 -0500 (EST) From: Christopher Bailey Subject: cover? > > Here's the set list: > > bla > bla > > How Deep is Your Love Whoa. I thought she never did covers, except for playing about 10 notes worth of "Stairway to Heaven," as a preface to explaining that she never does covers. And now the Beach Boys!! cool. Disco really has returned. Sure Jonatha does covers once in a while. I've heard her sing "Lean on Me", "Walk on the Wild Side" and "Don't Bring Me Down". It wasn't a cover. It was a new song, that rocked, and kicked ass. And Linger wasn't the Cranberries. - ---------------------------------------------------------- HELP! owner-full-fledged-strangers@smoe.org Send mail to full-fledged-strangers@smoe.org ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Feb 2000 23:47:46 -0800 From: "Derek Powell" Subject: Re: cover? oh, and btw.
