Not sure how I stumbled across this, but it's a really lovely reference to Angel in the House on a list called "The 100 Best Albums You've Never Heard": "You know how, in some movies, there's a character that you know is going to die because they are just too perfect? The Story was like that. Two women met while in college. Their voices and songs fit together so well it was scary, and stunningly beautiful. They shared the stage with Suzanne Vega, John Gorka, Christine Lavin and Patty Larkin - the cream of the new folk revival. One singer handled all the writing center stage. The other, just outside the spotlight, demanded attention with exquisite harmony vocals. The Story was a crystalline moment, and it couldn't last. Jonatha Brooke and Jennifer Kimball each went on to make their own way, with Angel In The House as a beacon. For a rainy Sunday afternoon, alone, or with someone you may never see again." http://www.imusic.com/features/buyguide/rocksleepers/pages/90s.html Also, anybody here into Sixpence None the Richer? Now before you groan about how you've heard "Kiss Me" on the radio about a billion times -- give their self-titled album a listen. I think that Kiss Me is one of the weaker songs on it. This is lovely, exceptionally well written, beautifully arranged music. Leigh Nash's voice gives me chills. They have a pseudo greatest hits album out, and another album called "This Beautiful Mess," both are recommended, although neither achieves the same charm as the current album. - --mike, waiting for Jonatha to play Slim's in SF solo again... - ---------------------------------------------------------- HELP! owner-full-fledged-strangers@smoe.org Send mail to full-fledged-strangers@smoe.org ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Sep 1999 22:11:59 EDT From: Nalaleah@aol.com Subject: Re: Test I don't know what to say. These are insightful songsmiths and good folks, too. They're somewhat loosely knit as a band -- the members freely migrate in and out of other sessions, groups, and arrangements. Matt's cello shows up in various places backing well-known mainstreamers, JJ's now laying the bass pulse for Plumb, and Tess has long since gone for Phantasmic (if memory serves correctly). Sure, "Kiss Me" is overplayed... Radio kills. Even so, Sixpence has some great music that one-track radio will never suffocate. rm - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Roderick Montgomery rod@dinkdonk.com the fool stands only to fall, but the wise trip on grace... But, before you jump on it and order, it is a DTS-encoded disc (hence its high price) and you must have a DTS decoder to play it. Alternative: get Kevin's solo effort "Thud". >Mark - ---------------------------------------------------------- HELP! owner-full-fledged-strangers@smoe.org Send mail to full-fledged-strangers@smoe.org ------------------------------ End of full-fledged-strangers-digest V2 #7 ****************************************** ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This has been a posting from full-fledged-strangers-digest For help send e-mail to owner-full-fledged-strangers@smoe.org ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
