I always found Bleeker Bob's to be way too expensive. Finyl Vinyl in the East Village (I don't know if it's still around though....it was on 2nd Ave. just south of where the old Fillmore East was) was very cool, as was Skyline Books on W. 18th, just west of B'way, and also Downstairs Records (I think they're mailorder only now) for 45s. I don't know what happened to the owner's stock (he had TONS of vinyl --- a lot of late '70s and early '80s punk and new wave, old '60s/'70s rock, and plenty of cheesy obscurities) but most of his titles were only $4 each and I found a lot of off the wall albums there back in the day. Somewhere in the early to mid '90s, the ceiling of the store (in a somewhat rundown building in not the greatest section of Chelsea) caved due to a broken pipe and much of the stock was water damaged. Also, I don't think the owner had insurance. Too bad for him, I guess. Well, later..... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Feb 2002 14:28:00 -0800 (PST) From: Shannan Subject: Re: find-your-mind "Butter 08" CD needed on CDR...please... kim's video....a good selection of weird cds and vinyl upstairs... - --- charles.carlino@prudential.com wrote: > I always found Bleeker Bob's to be way too > expensive.
