All, I've been really quiet about this whole thing until now. I realize we're all bummed out and feeling shitty. Fine. I think that it's really disrespectful for people to pretty much insult Jill. You have your opinions and that's fine. But remember that she was a big fucking part of that band and they would not have gone as far had she not been such a dynamic figure. I could go on forever about my disagreement w/a lot of the statements said so far and the manor in which they were done. Instead, I'm going to keep them to myself so as not to put anyone else's opinions down. I was lucky enough to have met all three women. I can tell who seems the most genuine and who seems the most stand-offish. I am shocked at some of the assumptions that have been made. It's all very disheartening. What transpires here is that most people blame Jill because it's easier to blame her. She was, correct me if I'm wrong, the leader of the band, and when something fucks up you always blame the leader, don't you? It's hard to blame the quiet one. Ain't it also really hard to have two leaders in one band? One of them had to step back and the other had to step up, it's only natural. Turns out Jill stepped up and Gabby stepped back. I'm just saying. And why do we have to blame someone in the band for this? Maybe they lost money over the record, maybe they were unhappy with the state of the record industry... We all have our theories about the causes of the breakup, but none of us knows for sure what really happened. The important thing is that they sorted out their shit and came to a decision. It's their lives anyway. Sorry if this sounds moralizing. Chuckster" Subject: Re: find-your-mind where is your mind? Great points, Marie. I think the most painful thing about all of this is that the current state of "pop" music pretty much sucks at this point...and L.J. were like a breath of fresh air for almost a decade. Obviously, we all love(d) them, and maybe we started taking the band for granted. Remember what Kate said in the interview I linked to this list a while back.... the routine of being in a band signed to a major label is 25% music and 75% business. Perhaps the business end started to become too much. Maybe Capitol started pressuring them. Possibly L.J. really felt in their hearts that E.Honey would be *the* record to catapault them into big-time success, and the hurt of it not doing that convinced them all to do different things on a smaller scale. Or..... and no one has addressed this yet.... maybe the three of them (all in their mid-30s) want to have some semblance of "normal" lives again. Jill, for instance, is married now, and maybe she and her husband want to start a family. I don't want to speculate too much, but I'm the same age as them.... and I'm a LOT different than I was a decade ago -- for better or worse. Before stumbling upon them, I had not be inspired by too much "new" music in a good long while, but LJ changed that for me. I totally agree with Jill's description of LJ's "mission statement" being about bringing all people together -- and I was totally in synch with that vibe at the LJ shows I attended (and I also danced like a mutha.....but I digress...). Gabby, Kate, Jill (and Vivian) -- You make me SO proud of my New York (Yawk) roots, and I am really excited about the future.
