How does this affect the band? Kate: Gosh, I think you have to ask the other band members. I think that if we encountered someone who was homophobic and made inappropriate statements, I would hope Jill and Gabby would be outspoken about it. But it's not just because of me?Gabby and Jill are very aware; it's not like I'm the only gay person they know or are close to. Girlfriends: Is your sexuality ever an issue within the band? Kate: It's become a non-issue, unless Gabby gets nosy and wants to know if I think some girl's cute. [laughs] We're respectful of each other's private lives, mostly. We share a lot of the same problems, in that it's hard to be on the road and maintain relationships. So we share that in common. **copied w/out permission...*** of off this article, which is good :) here's the link....http://www.gfriends.com/archive/gf799/pages/featureC1.htm I just read it this morning...someone posted this "Kate" site :) :) she's so f**cking awesome! - -----Original Message----- From: Korina Adkins [mailto:korina@grrlscout.com] Sent: Friday, March 31, 2000 11:34 AM To: find-your-mind@smoe.org Subject: Re: find-your-mind awards nominations > Is Kate gay? March 30, 2000, 12:10 pm PT After four albums of raucous, street-savvy electronic-influenced hip-hop, Luscious Jackson has decided to call it a day, according to a source close to the band. Capitol/Grand Royal Records released what is now the group's curtain call, Electric Honey, in 1999. There was no word where vocalist/bassist Jill Cunniff, vocalist/guitarist Gabby Glaser, and drummer Kate Shellenbach will go from here, as the band's PR firm, Nasty Little Man, as well as a spokesperson for the band at Atlas/Third Rail, the band's management company, had no comment at press time. Luscious Jackson emerged from the same early-'80s New York scene that spawned the Beastie Boys (Shellenbach was a drummer in an early B-Boys hardcore lineup) and caught the attention of the underground on their 1992 debut EP, In Search of Manny, on the Beastie Boy's Grand Royal imprint. The group garnered critical praise for their 1993 debut, Natural Ingredients, for their spastic ménage of street-wise hip-hop, underground electronic beats, and savvy, alt-rock and pop guitars and vocals. Fever In Fever Out followed in 1996, featuring the minor hit "Naked Eye." In 1998, keyboardist Vivian Trimble left the group to pursue other projects, narrowing the lineup to a trio for last year's Electronic Honey. In related news, Atlantic Records will release the self-titled debut from Trimble's new project, Dusty Trails, on May 9. Dusty Trails also includes ex-Breeders bassist Josephine Wiggs, and also features some help from Trimble's ex-bandmates. Cunniff sings and co-wrote one track, "Roll the Dice," and Shellenbach helps out on drums here and there throughout the record. -- Kevin Raub and i'm certain, if i drive into those tress, it'd make less of a mess than you've made of me. --rainer maria http://luscious.cjb.net http://freaker.cjb.net ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2000 13:02:00 EST From: AGENTCLPT@aol.com Subject: Re: find-your-mind This is a sad sad day... I have an irc channel called #Luscious_Jackson on EFnet. Usually I m the only one in the channel except some of my friend from other channel. I m gone to school till 3:40 pm PST. What time is the 7pm est and where is your chat site? By the way I had a strong feeling that this was comming, just because all the member are close to 35, and doing LJ for more than a decade, and Gill is married so she wants to stay with her man instead of being on road all the time. I guess the fact that there are only 3 of them left in LJ might made it hard to go on. Also music sean changed. Poeple are listening to hip pops and backstreet boys and N'Sync are the biggest seller. Maybee LJ had hard time finding their place in such a climate. ****Cry**** - ----- Original Message ----- From: someone !!
