[Lim7@aol.com] Re: find-your-mind LJ at House of Blues, L.A. [Miss Propaganda The technicians wore shorts and all had hairy legs. Tia, Jill, and Gabby switched off from bass to electrics, with Jill playing her semi-acoustic for some songs and Tia going to percussions. Even Singh played electric for 3 songs. He really did a good slide for (I think) "Summer Daze." Can't remember the setlist completely, but they played "Bam Bam" off of "In Search of Manny." Jill instructed the audience to scream their asses off when she said "Go" and to shut up when she'd yell "Stop." We were very loud and obedient. Jill looked like the proud owner of a potty-trained pet. They culled songs evenly off of "Natural Ingredients," "Fever In, Fever Out," and "Electric Honey." "Ladyfingers" was the third or fourth song into the set, and "Naked Eye" was two songs after that, so they did their "hits" early on. "Nervous Breakthrough" was the last song of their set. They returned for an encore with "Christine," "Summer Daze," and I think "Devotion." For the last song "Rock Freak," Jill pulled rowdy members from the audience on stage with her and they danced during the song with Jill and Kate. The dancers all got to hug Jill and Kate afterwards, which I thought was nice of them to do (Some of those dancers were kinda scary). Before "Sexy Hypnotist," Jill explained that she wrote the song in Vegas after fearing Sin City for so long. She basically dedicated the song to dumb whores (not her words; she used euphemisms), particularly ones in Vegas. Jill didn't talk much before songs, except to say that we were a great audience, that she was kind of sick but that we were giving her energy, and before "Fantastic Fabulous," said that they had a "friend" in Singh's computer (a recorded Deborah Harry). I was starting to think that LJ shrunk the rather large Ms. Harry and stuck her on the end of Singh's keyboard, but no, they just had her recorded voice. Other than that, stage banter was limited. Highlights were "Electric," "Why Do I Lie?" "Alien Lover," and "Water Your Garden." A great show, with much energy and lots of fun. They performed their songs almost exactly the way they sound on record, but seeing them perform was great because they all have such great stage presence and they like making the audience pogo. Any group that can make their audience members bounce like their asses are on fire are tops with me. A pathetic attempt at a setlist: Pele Here Bam Bam Ladyfingers Don't Look Back Mood Swing Electric Under Your Skin Naked Eye Alien Lover Water Your Garden Soothe Yourself (I think) Nervous Breakthrough Christine Sexy Hypnotist Devotion Fantastic Fabulous City Song Summer Daze Rock Freak I'm missing the songs they did off of "NI" since I rarely listen to that one and don't have the songs memorized. Hope everyone else gets to catch LJ on their club tour. They're quite memorable, I must say. Ben Lee was also a really fun, charming opener (and no, I didn't see Claire Danes there). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Oct 1999 10:17:32 -0700 From: Miss Propaganda Subject: Re: find-your-mind LJ at House of Blues, L.A. Sounds like it was a good show.... ....kicking myself for missing it....but, alas, no one to go with :-( Anyhow, in sort of related news (this is what happens when I get bored at work), Ladyfingers was released on karaoke recently. I saw this listing and about laughed my head off....I'm trying to imagine drunken folks singing LJ songs...I think you know you've really hit the big time when there's karaoke cds of your songs. So anyhow, I thought this might be of interest to someone on the list :-) ::::::::::wheeesh::::::::: - -Sarah ------------------------------ End of find-your-mind-digest V2 #143 ************************************
