[silliegrl@uswest.net] Re: find-your-mind WebCast Is Over!!! ["Holly Lam" Subject: find-your-mind Great, Fun Show! (Birch - 10/8) As usual, the LJ family put on a fab, fun show. Being the paranoid person I can be sometimes, I left work at 5 - in an attempt to beat traffic - and I arrived at 6!!! (Of course, the only other people there besides me were the BAND.) So, what did I do? I pulled my car up next to the LJ vans, truck, etc., and I ask Kate, "Duh... Is it okay if I park here?" She looked at me a little strangely and said something like, "I guess so." I was pretty embarrassed, but whatever. At least I got to play with her friend's (Ioni? I know I spelled that incorrectly. There was another woman with an unusual name...which I forget.) dog in the lot and listen to the soundcheck from outside. (The rest of the band, at times, walked outside, sat down, etc., but I didn't have the nerve to say anything. I'm just weird that way....give them their privacy.) So, the show... Ben Lee was entertaining, and hopefully, at his age, he will get better as a performer. He's got the talent, though - yes, some of the "stunts" are a little juvenile, and he did go on about the notorious Route 9 "IHOP" (of I-HOG, as we call it) too many times. Anyway, his set was pretty enjoyable. As for LJ, they did a nice mix of older through newer, though nothing from "Manny." I was not disappointed in the least, though, because everything they did was done extremely well, and the band on the whole has tremendous energy. I didn't write down songs, but I'd say they did about half of "Honey" and a nice mix of "FIFO"/"Ingredients" tunes... an hour-and-a-half show. The vocal mix was also good, though it seemed that Gabby and Singh were a little low in the mix. Still, that was minor, and the end product was great. Again, Tia proved that she's been a major component in the live LJ sound. She's very versatile and talented. Well, gotta run. Thanks to LJ for playing a club in my local area...Birch Hill. If they didn't feature predominantly metal/hard rock acts, maybe I'd see more shows there. (Jill had a few funny things to say about "Merciful Fate" coming there in the near future.) Trust me man, I'm definately not into offending anyone, period. I too live in the dark shadows of improper attitudes and their ignorant derrogatory comments about sub-cultures. Sometimes we need to be a little more tolerant than the next person even though it sucks. But also think about this, the word 'gay' itself has had other meanings over time. Even though it may play a key role in an important part of your life, the word has other meanings to other people. And when I was growing up we used the word a lot to describe people like Ben Lee. I've had gay friends most of my life and they even partake in this. Now, if I said he was a big hairy f**kin' f*gg*t a*s koala bear lookin' m*th*r f**ker, then that would certainly be cause for alarm. So, sorry if that comment was at all offensive and I'll work on my part if you reconsider how you approach tolerating other people as well... Peace, J. I didn't catch all of it but I heard them play Nervous Breakthrough, City Song, Fantastic Fabulous, Surprise -- that's all that I can think of. I had problems during part of the concert so I missed like 10 minutes of it. THey did invite fans onto the stage for CitySong, which they've done before. Apparently one of the fans wanted to play the drums, but I don't know what happened with that.
