Peate [mailto:rpeate@suffolk.lib.ny.us] Sent: Saturday, August 21, 1999 10:15 PM To: owner-find-your-mind@smoe.org Subject: what a bullshit message from escobar! having just returned today from a week-long vacation, i found this delightful message in my box: > Why doesn't Jill just release "Ladyfingers" for what it is: a > SOLO record? After all, if you look carefully at the liner-note > credits, neither Kate nor Gabby even PLAY on it. Same goes for > several other tunes on the album. Talk about a credit hog and > gi-huge-ic ego. i have always considered ms. cunniff to be the band's main creative force, but perhaps kate and gabby either didn't feel like it or weren't available to play on it. why does playing one's own song have to have a sinister motive? i think what matters is the fact that it represents the feeling of the band, still, because it is on the band's record. i don't think they'd have any difficulty finding other work if they did break up--therefore, they must still be together because they like each other. a couple of weeks ago, i saw a brief interview clip with all three ladies on much music, and i was very impressed by both gabrielle and kate--it seemed to me that all three ladies were wonderful. ultimately, i feel that you have an irrational hostility toward ms. cunniff, one which i am happy to say i do not share, "escobar". jimi hendrix played noel redding's bass guitar parts occasionally--does this mean jimi was a "credit hog and gi-huge-ic ego"? no. it means he knew what he wanted. "i'm not a bitch--i just know what i want."--madonna. and that's not even to say kate and gabby couldn't play it the way jill wanted--i'm sure we'd all agree they could; surely they just weren't available. let's go with the simplest explanation unless we have reason to do otherwise, okay, pal? > If I were the other two - especially Gabby, who only plays on 9 > out of 15 songs - I'd be looking to start another band. i think your keeping score is petty, and even less in the spirit of the band than that behaviour of which you accuse jill. > And it's not like E-Honey is even doing that well saleswise. actually, i'm under the impression it's doing better than expected. could someone shed some actual (as opposed to escobarean) light on this? sara?
