I just got home from the show...The show was incredible...I thought at first it was going to be a bust; Cibo Matto had their equipment stolen in Brooklyn and couldn't play, so I was worried that the whole show would have this negative vibe. But Alex kept spinning stuff, and got the crowd moving before it started. Finally they came out, and they opened with Pele Merengue--Kate positively bashed the shit out of her drums! They didn't stop there...Moving on to "Here," the album version. Even played "Love that's Real Suite"(I think; it's all punk and Jill sang, "I need love/That's real...I need love/That's real" ...you guys would know--it's not on a major release). The encore was Citysong and something else...I can't recall. All I remember was Tia coming up front and playing guitar a few feet away from me...! Ah, I was in heaven--she really is a headbanger...I'm in love. They played a great deal of their new stuff: Nervous Breakthrough, Ladyfingers, Christine(very interesting played live), Summer Daze, Devotion, Fantastic Fabulous, and Country's A Callin'. They played Here, Naked Eye, Electric, Why Do I Lie, Bam Bam(which rocked!), Deep Shag(another great one), and some more stuff from Natural Ingredients--I don't have it with me right now, or I'd tell you. I would have loved to hear Daughters of the Kaos, Under Your Skin, and Keep on Rockin' It, but alas it was not to be. I'm not upset in the slightest, though. The show was phenomenal. The thing I liked most about the show was that the whole band was in it. Alex kept it moving even between songs and during instrument changes, Kate was stellar, Singh played keys and guitar--kicking ass, I might add--Tia made me wet myself she was so awesome(I'm in love with her now!) and Jill and Gabby were so on it. Jill sings beautifully live. There were moments where the band danced on stage together, and laughed--nearly missing some of their vocals and stuff. At the end they let some people dance on stage(and one drunk guy decided to come up too, but it was cooled). It was clear to me that they all enjoyed being there. They were tight and well-rehearsed. I hope they come back soon... I am still vibrating from the show...And what's better, I get to see them on Tuesday at an invite-only recording session for a local radio station(WHFS). I surely lucked out there...! - --Steve, Hopeless Fanboy Extraordinaire - --part1_b2b8a41d.24e058b2_boundary-- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Aug 1999 18:00:16 -0400 From: rachel Subject: in baltimore so i was totally impressed with recher theatre as were my friends (we typically frequent 9:30 but opted against) totally bummed that cibo didn't show but the show rocked anyway even though they totally started late too and they tried to bring this little (like 8yr old) girl on stage to dance but she didn't want to i ttoally wanted to get up on stage when others did but then that drunk guy who wwnt up uninvited was removed so i opted against gawd that place has the cleanest bathrooms in the world! and it was funny when they were about to play christine and jill was like "this song is about a girl..." and gabby goes "named jill" jill: "who plays guitar..." gabby: "like jill...", etc. and anyway it was funny me and my friends chilled after and met them (which i think is insane ALWAYS) and they had brought the little girl onto the bus and chilled with her which is so awesome of them and throughout the show they were loving the crowd and said their new fave city was baltimore b/c we're all so cool (even though i'm so not from baltimore...) and that it felt like playing their original gigs which is great to hear as a fan of course so i lost my train of thought...humph... ack! i'm so totally jealous of person (steve?)going to whfs thing b/c they totally tape it near me and i would have signed up to get tix but i just checked by e-mail today and you had to have e-mailed them by like friday! just passin' thru, right? i think the nice duds cd might be stuff from one of those at whfs. i'm probably wrong. but it says recorded at whfs studios in rockville (i think) which is where they do just passin' thru (i think) which is like totally where i live. any chance that they're still offering tix...or you have an extra to sell?? anyway...superlong message just b/c the show was so excellent and i got a few pictures w/ band so i'm pressed :) and that whole little girl thing was just classic it would have been unbelievable if cibo was there but moderation is always good oh! and jill used the word "archetype" which is exciting for me b/c i teach SATs anyway toodles - --rachel ------------------------------ End of find-your-mind-digest V2 #97 ***********************************
