Rachel, though I'd have to agree that Jill is probably a more 'trained' songwriter, and her voice is sort-of becoming THE voice of LJ... sort of like Roger Daltrey's voice was the voice of the Who, as opposed to the occasional Townshend or Entwhistle lead vocal... your friend's comment that 'Gabby's songs totally suck,' or whatever he said, probably should have been left off this mailing list. Are we *not* all fans here? Perhaps a softer approach to his sentiments was in order? Whatever. Just my loose change. I'll tell y'all something......the one member I was *extremely* impressed with after watching 120 Minutes was Kate. She's articulate, pleasant, and she knows her shit. I also sense that she's the level-headed one in the group. The place has some history to it, so it's not some cosmopolitan space center, but they're under new agents so they get lots of great musicians and music groups to play there. I've only been there once, and it was to see a Gwar concert(hey, gimme a break--it's probably the only time I'll ever get to see those guys) and the whole stage area was covered in plastic wrap so the fake blood and other bodily fluids wouldn't stain the walls. I'll be at the show--August 7th, along with a few people from this list who live in the area, though I've been slacking instead of trying to coordinate something like I first wanted to. Anyone else who thinks they'll be at that show or would want to go, mail us. We could probably get together an "LJ fan-clan" or something. - --Steve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 10:50:15 EDT From: MykePM@aol.com Subject: Re: etc.... Just because this is a list for Luscious Jackson fans, it doesn't mean we have to limit our comments to glowing thoughts about the band. And while the criticism of Rachel's friend might have been phrased a little cruder than some people might prefer, I don't think there was any malicious intent there. Now what I'm REALLY bummed out about is that I totally missed the 120 minutes appearance last Sunday. I had such a hectic weekend that I forgot all about it - 'til I got back to work on Monday and saw it on my calendar. Oh well. I felt a little bit better after finding the 8-minute Electric Honey promo/interview video clip on Sara's website. Get thee to to find the link if you haven't seen it yet. - -Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 17:45:15 -0400 (EDT) From: Shannan Subject: Re: LJ "Knee-Jerk Reaction" Quiz: 1 to 10 I dont know where all of you stand on bootlegs and stuff like that....but I'm on a few other lists (ani difranco and the cranberries mainly) and we trade alot of live recordings. I dont have any live recordings of luscious jackson or have even seen any around....is there anyway someone could help me out here? do any exist? i know its usually illegal to record concerts, but people do it and i know some are professionally done. I'd just like to hear some live stuff. Thanks, Shannan - --- Kate Y wrote: > > Anyway...both shows were awesome and it totally > rocked to be front row for > both of them. The song on the Half Baked soundtrack is "Love That's Real Suite". It starts out kind of slow and groovin', then kicks into a punkish barrage. It's good, and they've been playing it live on this tour (just the punk part). - -Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 22:02:00 EDT From: MykePM@aol.com Subject: Re: 120 minutes request Sarah wrote: > My timer on my VCR didn't work, so I was not able to watch 120 minutes. > If you taped this show and its a good quality recording, I'd like a > copy. > > Let's work out a deal... Sorry to waste the list's time with a "me too" post, but I'd be interested as well if someone's willing to make an extra copy. If so, please let me know off-list. - -Mike ------------------------------ End of find-your-mind-digest V2 #80 ***********************************
