Kate and all, The consensus on the name of the Life of Leisure guy seems to be "Rubberback". Now I just need to figure out what that means. I suppose something to do with being lazy. I like "Robobot" better actually. I always say something like "Rababa" - imagining it's Arabian or something. (Yes, I know he has a Jamaican accent). I'm bummed about the bonus disk, too. I ordered one from CDNOW, and since I won't be getting it 'til well after the release date I'm hoping I'll be compensated with the single. The one I bought Tuesday (so I'd have familiarity with the new stuff when I saw them live) had nada. Speaking of seeing them live, I saw them tonight in New Haven (just got home, BTW) and they were awesome. I'll also be at the show tomorrow night in Long Island, if anyone wants to congregate. - -Mike In a message dated 7/1/99 8:37:13 PM Eastern Daylight Time, ktyerves@hotmail.com writes: > HI everyone! > > Chuck: I was wondering who that guy was too and if it was all the same > person or not. Anyone who went to the show remember a setlist? I'm curious to see how much old stuff they're mixing in with the new, and exactly which new ones they're playing, etc. So everyone seems baffled by the bonus single, so far it sounds like Tower in SF is the only confirmed spot. I already snagged one of those, but as a public service to the list, has anyone spotted them anywhere else? Today at the X Games here they played Naked Eye over the PA before the women's inline street event - which was awesome. Hi. I just subscribed to this here mailing list thingamajig so I thought I would introduce meself. My name is Zac, I'm 19 years of age. I play bass+guitar and am an aspiring magazine writer. My only claim to fame was a job reviewing a Soul Coughing concert for SPIN magazine, only to have them yank the carpet out from under me and not print my review (which is a shame because I think it to be the best I've ever written). Oh well, at least I got a fee concert out of it, eh? In the mean time I pay the bills working at the blockbuster video in Rehoboth Beach, DE I was first made aware of the band when I saw them on the adventures of Pete & Pete on nickelodeon (that show was genius!). I don't remember when I got the albums, but it was shortly after that, and I consider myself to be a pretty big fan. I've seen them only once, at the tibetan freedom concert last year in DC. I forced myself into the 3rd row in spite of injuries resulting from some unruly crowdsurfers during radiohead's set. They were great, I got bruised, and the water bottle guy bilked me out of 30 bucks. well I'd hate to think that this is interesting anyone right now, so I'll leve my intro at that. nice to meet you. - -Zac "Oh, I'll just go back out the window" - -Max Fischer RUSHMORE YANKEE 1985-1997 Get your Free E-mail at http://lusciousjackson.zzn.com ___________________________________________________________ Get your own Web-based E-mail Service at http://www.zzn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jul 1999 08:41:43 PDT From: celestial blue Subject: the lyrics Okay everyone...one more time for all to see... Under proposed legislation the U.S. Postal Service will be attempting to bilk email users out of "alternate postage fees". Bill 602P will permit the Federal Govt. to charge a 5 cent surcharge on every email delivered, by billing Internet Service Providers at source. The consumer would then be billed in turn by the ISP. Washington D.C. lawyer Richard Stepp is working without pay to prevent this legislation from becoming law. The U.S. Postal Service is claiming that lost revenue due to the proliferation of email is costing nearly $230,000,000 in revenue per year. You may have noticed their recent ad campaign "There is nothing like a letter". Since the average citizen received about 10 pieces of email per day in 1998, the cost to the typical individual would be an additional 50 cents per day, or over $180 dollars per year, above and beyond their regular Internet costs. Note that this would be money paid directly to the U.S. Postal Service for a service they do not even provide. The whole point of the Internet is democracy and noninterference. If the federal government is permitted to tamper with our liberties by adding a surcharge to email, who knows where it will end. You are already paying an exorbitant price for snail mail because of bureaucratic efficiency. It currently takes up to 6 days for a letter to be delivered from New York to Buffalo. If the U.S. Postal Service is allowed to tinker with email, it will mark the end of the "free" Internet in the United States. One congressman, Tony Schnell (r) has even suggested a "twenty to forty dollar per month surcharge on all Internet service" above and beyond the government's proposed email charges. Note that most of the major newspapers have ignored the story, the only exception being the Washingtonian which called the idea of email surcharge "a useful concept who's time has come" March 6th 1999 Editorial) Don't sit by and watch your freedoms erode away! Send this email to all Americans on your list and tell your friends and relatives to write to their congressman and say "No!" to Bill 602P. It is entertaining and varied stuff, but lacks the insurrectionary edge which marked their earlier work. Where Luscious Jackson have smoothed away some of the rough edges, their New York beatbox-pop peers Cibo Matto continue to sound endearingly eccentric on their second album, Stereo*Type A.
