We were lucky enough to catch an early set by Dusty Trails, the new semi-supergoup led by ex-Breeders bassist Josephine Wiggs and former Luscious Jackson keyboardist Vivian Trimble, Tuesday (June 22) night at New York's Fez. The four-piece, all-female group (allstar, April 3, 1998) mostly meandered through a loungey set of semi-instrumentals -- they claim to be, first and foremost, a "soundtracks" band, and fit that bill to a tee. Oddly, although Wiggs is the main songwriter, and stands front and center (introducing all songs in her prim British upper-class tea voice), she doesn't sing -- leaving those chores up to Trimble. Comparisons to Stereolab ran rampant through the crowd, although we personally were reminded of the backwoods yodeling music to the Nicholas Cage/Coen Brothers film Raising Arizona. wondering if anyone went to this show? i was interested in going to this one or the one last week...but alas no one to go with and i wasn't in the mood to be alone in the city. if anyone has any questions about the band...dusty trails that is...feel free to ask...i've been in touch and can get stuff answered... sara http://luscious.cjb.net http://seepies.cjb.net ------------------------------ End of find-your-mind-digest V2 #60 ***********************************
