One thing I really love about LJ, and particularly Jill C., is that they/she are taking great songwriting to another level. After all, you can have all the grooves, techie tricks, funky editing techniques, overdubs, etc., but if the song sucks what does it matter? Jill, IMHO, is really becoming one of our generation's great songwriters, and I can really see the lineage between her writing style and the style of many of the female singer-songwriter pioneers who sprung from the '60s, such as Carole King, Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell, and Essra Mohawk, who happens to be a friend. If any of you are not familiar with Essra and her wonderful music/songs (she *is* the Secret Diva...even after all these years), check out her wonderful new website: http://www.rockersusa.com/EssraMohawk Just thought that some of you fans of great style & songs would appreciate being turned on to something old/new.
