Well, I just have to retort...I suggest buying all of your musical needs from your friendly neighborhood INDEPENDENT record store...they'll appreciate your business and it will getcha away from the 'puter for a bit... :-) - -Sarah ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 06:04:08 -0700 From: "C.A. Then again, at 33 years old, I still feel there's nothing quite like the old days of purchasing an LP (yes, an album, vinyl, whatever you want to call it), slitting open the vinyl w/ my fingernail, sliding out the big round platter, and popping it on the turntable. CDs, as amazing as they can sound, if mastered properly, just don't convey the same feel. I'm glad though that LJ (being around my age) appreciate vinyl and release all of their albums in that format, even if it's limited edition. What's your take on all this gang? - -- On Tue, 20 Oct 1998 00:54:59 Miss Propaganda wrote: >That cd thingy dealy sounds neat-o, I had not heard anything of this >before... > >Kate Yerves wrote: > >> I bought it from CDNow which was fast and cheaper >> so buy it from them if you can. > >Well, I just have to retort...I suggest buying all of your musical needs >from your friendly neighborhood INDEPENDENT record store...they'll >appreciate your business and it will getcha away from the 'puter for a >bit... > >:-) > >-Sarah > > - -----== Sent via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==----- http://www.dejanews.com/ Easy access to 50,000+ discussion forums ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 06:45:33 -0700 From: "C.A. Here are my favorites, from highest to lowest (lowest still being damn good): 1) Natural Ingredients 2) In Search of Manny (If it was a full-length album, I may have rated it #1) 3) Tie: Fever In, Fever Out/Klassics with a K (Kostars) 4) Tip Top Starlets (Nice Duds 1) - fanclub CD - -------C.A. - -----== Sent via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==----- http://www.dejanews.com/ Easy access to 50,000+ discussion forums ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 10:55:05 -0400 From: "Kristen A. I just wish there was more of it, because it's too good to be only 24 minutes long! Ahhhh, such are EPs...... a dying format actually. You don't see them much any- more. - ------C.A. Come to think of it though, I'd gladly pay full CD price for a kickass 24 minute EP than a jam-packed 75 minute mediocre mess. The only saving grace for these overlong, padded CDs is using your program controls wisely to select the good songs. One CD that readily fits this description is "Pieces Of You" by Jewel. Half of it is really good, while the other half is very so-so. Not bad for a debut album, but it could have been a great shorter album. Another thing that sort of sucks about these very long hit and miss CDs is that artists nowadays release a disc and then wait years to put out another one. In sharp contrast, I think back to all my favorite artists of the '70s (the LP heyday), and they'd at the very least put out one album per year...sometimes two! Ranting again, - --------C.A. What's your take on all this gang? Well, C.A. Carlino, I must say I agree with you about the whole vinyl thing. In fact I'm going to buy my copy of Red, Hot, and Rhapsody on vinyl (hopefully the Red+Hot people are still releasing their stuff on vinyl). Okay, records sound like crap on crappy turntables, but if one is willing to spend 150 bucks or so, tis very easy to get some good equipment. I myself have an old Sony which is slightly retarded but the needle is in good shape so it's all good. I would eventually like to shell out the 400 bucks for a nice technics turntable...I love them, the arm is light as air....hehe... Regarding your record rankings, I'll just put my two cents in here as well... numero uno: In Search of Manny dos: Klassics w/ a K tres: Fever In/Fever Out cuatro: Natural ingredients It's very hard to rank these actually...I love them all, but I did not love: Tip Top Starlets In fact, I thought it was CRAP! :-) I think the fanclub coulda come up with something all little more sophisticated and not so freakin repetitive. Speaking of fanclubs...what's up with Nice Duds 2? Regarding the length of CD's...I kinda like EP's cuz it's usually stuff that probably wouldn't make it on an LP and it's usually (nowadays) something done for fun...happy, happy!! I also have no attention span, so whatever.... I agree about people waiting forever to release an album these days. Is it the artists or the record companies??? I know Jewel has about a bazillion songs and could make like 10 records in one week, yet I hear some crappy single out on the radio now...wuzzzup??? (I am a bitter ex-fan of jewel) And anyone that knows me well would know that I still haven't lost hope for Elastica releasing SOMETHING...ANYTHING!!!! Ahem, I have rambled and brambled FAR too long, - -Sarah (if you wanna read more of my rambling go to home.earthlink.net/~rubyredd/ :-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 22:39:42 EDT From: CriDuCh4t@aol.com Subject: Re: a little survey....... My favorite LP is Fever In Fever Out, coz it's really soothing to me. Same thing goes for the Kostars LP. I hear the forthcoming album will be much of a melting pot of styles... and so here comes my own little survey, while we're on the subject: what would you guys name the new album if the band asked you for suggestions? I think a while back someone (Ed) said they would call it "Luscious IV", and so I thought that would be a good idea, only if "IV" stood for "Intra Veinous" though, not for "4". Anyway, I guess I'd go for "Luscious Intra Veinous", I was just wondering if any of you out there had other ideas, for what it's worth..? ------------------------------ End of find-your-mind-digest V1 #38 ***********************************
