She sings on "song for Junior", its instrumental, and she doesn't really sing on it just wails a bit. You couldn't tell it was her, very high pitched and all. But otherwise the song is very latin like sounding. The New Beastie Boys is very hip hop oriented, good thing. Infact some of the music is Tribe Called Quest Sounding too, overall=excellent Ok some Luscious news, incase anyone din know, new LJ album tentively titled "Luscious IV" and is due out Oct. 29 exactly 2 years after the realease of FIFO. Either way, I'll be happy... and I definitely don't want them to look back. The tour, labeled the Suffragette Sessions Tour, will be hitting clubs in 12 cities between Aug. 19 and Sept. 3. In addition to Indigo Girls' Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, the tour will feature Luscious Jackson's Kate Schellenbach, Gail Ann Dorsey, Jane Siberry, Lourdes Perez, Lisa Germano, Mecca Normal's Jean Smith, Come's Thalia Zedek, and Josephine Wiggs, formerly of the Breeders. It is unlikely that there will be any solo performances on the tour, which will instead focus on various combinations of artists onstage together, according to Indigo Girls' manager Russell Carter of Atlanta- based Carter Management. Other artists have expressed interest in joining the tour, but it is doubtful that changes will be made to the current lineup. Carter maintains that the tour is not "a big moneymaking thing, just a fun musical experience." And, if all goes well, the Suffragette Sessions Tour could turn into an annual event. But don't expect help from the likes of jeans makers or gourmet coffee chains: the Indigo Girls would never allow corporate sponsorship, says Carter. "They are opposed to that." Suffragette Sessions Tour dates: Aug. 19, Portland, Maine, State Theater Aug. 20, Burlington, Vermont, Memorial Auditorium Aug. 22, Cleveland, Agora Aug. 24, Detroit, State Theater Aug. 25-26, Chicago, Riviera Aug. 27, Milwaukee, Rave Aug. 28, Minneapolis, First Ave. Aug. 30, Cincinnati, Bogart's Sept. 1, Norfolk, Virginia, Boathouse Sept. 2, Philadelphia, Electric Factory Sept. 3, TBA - -Mike Magnuson _______________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 13:08:34 -0400 From: "Kristen A. Since Jill wrote it, I think we can assume she has a preference for men. On a completely different note, I'm kinda new here, and I'm wondering what the *real* reason Viv left was. I'm assuming there was some jealousy involved because she seemed to receive an excessive amount of screen time relative to her role in the band. Had there been any quarrels before? Hey everyone... I finally decided to contribute my thoughts on the latest LJ discussion. :) I've always wondered about Jill and Viv's sexuality. We all know Kate is gay and I read an online chat where Gabby says she is straight. I've never heard anything definite on Jill and Viv even though a lot of my friends think they're all gay. :) In the Penthouse article, which is great by the way and so long, Jill says she is in a long term relationship with a man. So she could be bi at least....I hope. :) I'm bi too. Anyway, I have no idea about Viv. Also...they talk about her leaving in the article too. I guess she was just sick of the whole touring thing and needed a break as well as wanting to do her own thing. I've heard many times that the split was a friendly one. That's cool. Anyone hear anything on the replacement keyboardist they have? I'm wondering if he will be permanently added to the group or if he just filled in for the Philly and Tibetan shows. He was pretty cool even though it was weird to see a guy in the band and not Viv. His name was Singh I think and I can't remember his last name. Do you know Sara? I talked to him a little bit after the Philly show and he was really nice. About the new album... I asked Jill if they were going to headline a tour soon and she said something like, "no, we're actually working on a new album." I asked her what the name of it was and she said she didn't know yet. I can't wait for it though. Tomorrow I pick up the new Beastie's....yay! It's so cool that she wrote and performed some of the lyrics on it. I'll let you know how it is once I've heard it. Have a great day everyone!!! Kate PS: I found a Kostars 7" today but I guess someone else bought the Ladies Who Lunch because they didn't have it at the store any more. Oh well...I'll keep looking. I was just really glad to get the Kostars one. "Hey Cowboy, French Kiss, and Don't Know Why" are on it as well as a cool cover pic of Jill and Viv. I'm so excited! :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 03:14:36 -0400 From: alckyvox@colba.net Subject: Re: LJ sightings.... As long as everyone insists on speculating about the LJ members' sex lives, I thought I'd throw my 2 cents worth in on the subject matter as well, even though I don't really care about who they're doing. I don't remember where the hell I heard it, but some rumour came about my ears one time that of the 4 girls in the band, one was gay, one was straight and two were bi. But of course this was just hearsay, and we all know that it doesn't mean shit.. especially since, thinking back, I do believe that the person who told me this mingled with drugs quite frequently, so I suppose the validity of the info can be flushed down the toilet vigorously. Anyway. To me, Jill seems straighter than a razor blade, basically coz she's been with the same guy for years, but I've read somewhat, shall we say, "foggy" statements by her in interviews, which could've implied that there wasn't only one gay/bi person in the band. In one Film Threat issue, they were asked if they were to make a porno flick, what would they name it, and she responded "Luscious Lesbos". I also read some interview on the net in which she said something like "we swing in all directions in this band", after some sex orientation talk. But she might've said that only coz Kate's gay. I say Jill and Gabby are straight, my doubts are on Viv concerning the bi thing, dunno why. Oh well. It's 3am, I better go get a life before it's too late. ttfn Marie - --------------- http://come.to/kostars ------------------------------ End of find-your-mind-digest V1 #7 **********************************
