I only managed to get in because a kindly fan sold me a ticket at a reduced price. Thanks very much, whoever you are. It was a very fine absolutely solo all RH compositions gig, opening with The Abyss from Tromso Kapitan and progressing through a varied selection from the Soft Boys days (I wanna Destroy you) up to the recent album (I want to tell you about what I want, Mad Shelleybs Letterbox), taking in early (Listening to the Higgins) and late (Adventure Rocket Ship) songs along the way. Inter-song chat was as wayward as ever, centering on how the various guitar strings felt as they were being retuned (how does he manage to retune every few songs without breaking any strings?). He mentioned the 1986 Bierkeller gig, comparing the room at the Louisiana favourably as the Bierkeller bfelt more like playing in a sandwichb. I had forgotten that gig - the Western Star Domino Club Egyptians set around the same time was so energetic that it had wiped The Bierkeller from my memory, but it was the first time I heard the sensational I Often Dream of Trains played live. Immensely satisfactorily he concluded the Louisiana show with that same song. He asked a mate of Martin Hughes to write the set list which I will post on Facebook. Smashing show, not quite up with the Fleece in 2000 with Kimberley Rew, Morris Windsor, Patch Hannan and (I think) Jake Kyle and Tim Keegan but the best solo show I have seen.
