Despite the fact that Robyn Hitchcock referred to him formally as 'Mr Boom' when they were on tour together, it turns out that his real name is Peter Kember. Anyone know anything more about him? Although I am an ageing hippie and the first thing I do when I get to the Fleece is look for a bar stool to sit on, I do find these numbered seats gigs a bit formal. I remember that smashing Fleece show just before the reformation of the Soft Boys when they played some amazing encores including George Harrison's 'Old Brown Shoe'. I doubt that I will see another RH gig with that impact again. Anyway, the Colston Hall speak highly of it! - - Mike Godwin Blurb: "Singer-songwriter and guitarist, Robyn Hitchcock, started his career in Cambridge with an acoustic guitar and his loopy vocal style. He ended up in the melodic punk band The Soft Boys b a rather different sound to where he started.Hitchcock later went solo, releasing his debut album bBlack Snake Diamond Roleb. The mid-2000s saw him collaborating with various artists including Peter Buck of R.E.M. b they were known as Venus 3. In 2007 Hitchcock was the subject of a documentary entitled bSex, Food, Deathb& and Insectsb, directed by John Edginton. Hebs also worked with the likes of Jarvis Cocker and KT Tunstall". "From the Cheese Alarm to Where Are the Prawns, bveteran post-punk folk singerb (Pitchfork) Robyn Hitchcock has written and recorded over 500 songs, which he describes as bpaintings you can listen tob. He founded The Soft Boys in 1976 and has played with a variety of musicians, including Martin & Eliza Carthy, Howe Gelb, Graham Coxon and Johnny Marr. Hitchcockbs 2014 album, The Man Upstairs, bstands among his all-time best albums b& [and is] his finest work in yearsb (The Quietus). ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Oct 2016 20:42:27 -0400 From: "Stewart C.
