I move around the floor trying to get the best combination of stereo separation (no point standing near one speaker, natch) and least audience participation--it's really annoying to have someone right next to you hollering, whistling, and nattering through the songs. That obviously includes me; my own clapping would be front and center on the recording, so through the whole show I faux-clap--don't want to look disinterested, after all. One great thing about binaural recordings is that if you pair the mics with in-ear headphones (super-earbuds)--now you've got things both poked into your ears and sitting in your pinnae (great word, thanks for finding it)--once you've dialed everything in you can be at a very loud concert, standing as close to the stage as you care to, and still hear it at as moderate a volume as you want. Hah! Great question about other personal sounds. With in-ear headphones, they're obviously amplified to me. I don't recall them making it to the recordings, though, probably because the mics are fairly directional and pointed away from me. Just did a test--I have to work at it to breathe loudly enough that I hear myself, so that helps. Dave. Dave Witzany witzanyd@gmail.com ...one of Nature's bounds checkers.
