I'd second that about the preamp. When I'm digitising cassettes, I run the tape deck through the amp in the same way I would if playing them, and connect to the computer via the headphone socket. I use a Griffin iMic, which is USB to the computer (of course) and has a stereo DI input for taking signal from the amp. Same sort of price as the Behringer suggested.
