But, there was a fairly recent couple records that, while nowhere near the Airplane-era peak, were well past the commercialized glurk of the '80s stuff: folk-influenced, still very political, etc. To me, Kantner's always been the heart and soul of that band(s?): when he's on, they're at least interesting; when he's off (or absent), well, it's chancey. My next question concerns Jefferson Starship, who are playing in Frome tomorrow. I used to enjoy seeing the old Airplane in the 60s and 70s, and I like some of the Kantner and Slick albums such as Baron von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun, but all I have ever heard of Starship is that they are not in the same league. They are, however, supposed to be basing their set on Surrealistic Pillow, which has lots of good songs on it. Has anyone seen recent line-ups (lines-up)? I gather that Paul Kantner and David Freiburg are the only members from the old days. - - Mike Godwin PS As always, delighted to see plenty of posts here! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Jan 2014 10:02:59 -0600 From: David Witzany Subject: What I miss I miss sig lines.
