Just watch 5 minutes of the video....http://vimeo.com/29589320 > ea Have you ever seen the episode of Frontline called "The Merchants of Cool"? It's probably a bit dated, but I've seen it two or three times and was mesmerized by it. And it (kind of) explains Insane Clown Posse (whose acronym now just makes me think of my ISP) and their fans. The study of ICP the most amusing part of the program. The show is basically about marketing to teenagers, finding out what the "cool" kids think is cool, and convincing everyone else to think it's cool (enough to buy) until the "cool" kids move onto the next cool (and profitable) consumer items. The absolutely fascinating part to me is how the kids are soooo convinced they're making up their own minds about what is cool while it's being shoved down their throats (this may come as no surprise to anyone's who knows the basics of marketing -- I, sadly or gladly, don't know much about it.) You can watch it free online: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/cool/ (as well as all the other fine episodes of Frontline.) as ever, Lauren - -- "people with opinions just go around bothering one another." -- the buddha ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V19 #87 *******************************
