Hi List, I've been meaning to chime in on R.E.M., basically just to say that, since "Monster" is my favourite R.E.M. album, I've recused myself from the discussion (I had a long-standing problem with R.E.M. fans, as I did with Smiths fans, and kind of stayed away from the band until I saw the wonderful black & white documentary of the "Monster" tour. Just a ten-second clip of Stipe (who I mistakenly called Stripe for years) singing "Wichita Lineman" was enough to swing the mistake I had made of judging a band by its fans. My condolences to all of you who loved the band more than I did. I, for one, hopes Stipe is recruited to read audio books and narrate documentaries as he has one of the most gorgeous speaking voices I know of. BTW, ken o's blog paid respect to "Maggie May" to-day: http://supergroovydeliciousbite.blogspot.com/2011/10/maggie-may-reason-to-believe.html which took me back to eddie's proposal that Rod Stewart is perhaps the best male vocalist: http://www.fegmania.org/archives/fegmaniax/v17.n010 ...but really it just me an excuse to remember that there's some pop songs that still make me cry. November 19th -- see Jimmy Webb on a family outing, or haul my ass up to Brooklyn?
