There is usually some kind of apocalyptic weather situation going on when I see the Decemberists. Driving rain, hurricane-force winds, and once Colin couldn't get to Boston for a solo show because we had a blizzard. Now I am in California, Santa Barbara to be specific, delivering my son to grad school (we decided to combine our farewell and a vacation). Don't know if I could live here, but we are having a great time. We are seeing The Fleet Foxes at the Santa Barbara Bowl on Tuesday night before we head off to parts slightly north. Not as bad as the Pernice Brothers...who had two shows cancelled in the NE due to the hurricanes...and who'd...well, I'll let the very amusing Joyce Linehan (from the Pernice's newsletter) finish the tale: "In the first few days of September 2005, the Pernice Brothers were on tour in Florida, headed for shows in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Good times. And its not JUST Katrina and Irene. You may recall (or your parents might) that the Pernice Brothers, most of whom lived in New York at the time, embarked on a European tour on the evening of September 10, 2001, flying from JFK to Heathrow, and then were trapped overseas with no way to get home for over a week. Also, on a slightly smaller scale, but no less memorable on account of the firearms involved, was the time, also on the same tour in 2005, that the club in Dallas was seized by the ATF for non-payment of taxes, just as the band was loading in for soundcheck! Im not saying that Joes touring karma is wiggy, but if I was planning a wedding or something, Id steer about 100 miles and a week clear of a Pernice show." - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.wordpress.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Sep 2011 00:12:44 -0700 From: "Red-Headed Chuck" Subject: Holy Shit! frank turner north american dates are already beginning to sell out! what the fuck, is this guy becoming *popular*, or something? all i know is that the new album is a fucking masterpiece. and that's *still* my opinion after a dozen or so listens.
