Our very own Blatzman is a UCSB grad. So is another former bandmate of mine, Charlie Eckstrom, with whom I've recorded a few things lately. They're good people. My bro-in-law did his grad work there in Math and my brother, who still lives in SB, worked there for many years. Of course, when my family moved to SB from LA when I was a kid, UCSB had banned all greek organizations and all athlectics. We moved there only a couple of years after the students had burned the Bank of America in Isla Vista. At the time it was community gardens and pro viet-cong rallies. I've heard that it's all beamers and the greeks, and athletics, are back, big-time. But all-in-all, it's an excellent school with an excellent reputation and a fabulous facility and location. While I went to Santa Barbara City College, I lived in Isla Vista for many years and went to tons of great lectures and concerts at UCSB and made many good friends there. Hey, I saw Bucky Fuller speak there! I would recommend it, seems like a choice selection. True, expensive part of California but the education is top flight. - - c On Feb 25, 2011, at 3:20 PM, Jill Brand wrote: > Hey, all. 'cause if it were truly a free market, then the big bulking behemoths would be the much more vulnerable that the small, nimble joes blow. microsoft would spend a gajillion dollars developing and bringing to market its newest whiz-bang, and any joe blow with access to a dvd burner and a spindle of blank discs could go stand outside the official outlet store, and sell the whiz-bang for a fraction of the price. that's why big business is so afraid of the free market: it'd kill its profits dead as a doorknob. and in cases where microsoft tried to turn the tables, anyone *could* do jack: namely, turn around and undersell the hulking bureaucratic giant, simply by hawking the stuff out of the trunk of his or her motor-car. mini-review: seeing all the hype 'round *The Social Network*, decided to give it a download -- though i've never had a facebook account. seeing david fincher's name at the helm almost caused me to delete the file straight away. glad i didn't, as this is one hell of a entertaining flick! not as good as *The Fighter*, for certain. but definitely superior to *True Grit*. oh, and i'm still a-fuckiong-dicted to *The King Is Dead* (in case you're scoring at home). didja all hear the KCRW session, in which they opened with "Cuyahoga"? yow! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Feb 2011 07:40:54 +1300 From: grutness@slingshot.co.nz Subject: Re: QUAKE >Are there reputable organizations collecting funds for aid which you might >recommend?
