Who else got a foot and a half of snow yesterday? And didn't get Christmas presents on time? I am never ordering anything from anybody who uses DHL again. The new Sufjan album is really interesting and not very Sufjanesque...except for those flutey sounds that appear a lot. Took me a long time to get into it, but it's kind of the melding of the (admittedly few) good aspects of "Enjoy Your Rabbit" with the symphonic stuff he tried with BQE. I rather like it. Of course his tagging system is different from mine, including some special tags (in fields other than "genre") separating out his compilations, comedy records, soundtracks etc. (These take the form of entries in places like the "Sort Artist" field meant to trick iTunes' alphabetical sorting system, like "z1 zz3 comedy"). I'm trying to free them to intermingle with the other regular files by deleting all this coded info. But for some reason, it's not working on a big percentage of them. I have gotten it so that on the "Get Info" prompt, all the fields on the "Info" and "Sort" pages are completely, positively blank with the exception of the essential stuff (Artist, Song, Album, Track), and still these files are alphabetizing as if there's a "zz" in one of the sort fields. The result is that if I browse my artists, they're all alphabetical through ZZ Top, and then there's a big string of randomly arranged artist names which used to be in my friend's collection as soundtracks, comedy, etc. Any ideas what little trick I'm missing? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Dec 2010 12:07:20 -0800 From: Tom Clark Subject: Re: Mo' itunes q's Maybe go to View>View Options (cmd-J) and check all the boxes you suspect might be effecting this sort weirdness, e.g., Sort Artist, Sort Album, etc Hopefully that will suss out the field that's causing this. - -tc On Dec 27, 2010, at 5:05 PM, Rex Broome wrote: > So a friend of mind kindly allowed me to copy a bunch of his music files. > Of course his tagging system is different from mine, including some special > tags (in fields other than "genre") separating out his compilations, comedy > records, soundtracks etc. (These take the form of entries in places like > the "Sort Artist" field meant to trick iTunes' alphabetical sorting system, > like "z1 zz3 comedy").
