She actually prefers men's fitness magazines (she says the information is pretty much the same, but the pictures are nicer to look out.) But she's not picky. I was helping her pack to move into the city, and came across a copy of "Woman's Health." Now I haven't read a woman's magazine in a *really* long time, so I had a kind of rubberneck fascination with it. It started out by noticing the magazine used phrases like "down there", "romp", and "go-around". I think I ended up reading every very, very stupid article in the thing, all the while thinking about how what I was reading was very, very stupid (only one of the reasons I don't read women's magazines.) At any rate, this was my particular favourite sentence, used as a tagline to the "Style + Beauty Lab" section: "Experts says that radiance and good skin tone are two of the biggest indicators of beauty." Do I need to go on, or can Jeff 2fs take it from here? xo - -- "people with opinions just go around bothering one another." -- the buddha ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Oct 2010 18:07:39 -0400 From: Stewart Russell Subject: reap Claire Rayner, 79. - -- http://scruss.com/blog/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Oct 2010 13:48:11 -0700 From: M Holden Subject: Re: Record Club #9 - Marc H. Well, the sex terms are certainly off-putting, I'm particularly taken by the concept of "indicators of beauty." I mean, if someone is walking down the street, and sees a woman, does he have a mental of checklist of indicators of beauty that he uses to access whether a woman is beautiful? Or do these indicators work on a subliminal level, and it's the woman who needs to keep the mental checklist? Also, I find it particularly unfair that the article highlights only TWO indicators of beauty. I have a suspicion there may be more. Four? Five? Twenty? Who knows? Also, is it possible to have the indicators of beauty, and not have beauty? All I know is that it's clearly very difficult and confusing these days, being a woman reading a woman's magazine. Well, at least when you take a break from being amused. xo P.S. Also, this magazine clearly has NO idea how much men like Christina Hendricks. - -- "people with opinions just go around bothering one another." -- the buddha ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Oct 2010 08:24:57 -0400 From: Jeremy Osner Subject: REAP Benont Mandelbrot, aged 85: http://laughingsquid.com/benoit-b-mandelbrot-1924-2010-father-of-fractal-geometry/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Oct 2010 08:31:16 -0400 From: "Stewart C. Although I did see a cover tease recently that was unquestionably referring to pubic hair, which seemed like a new development to me. > > P.S.
