I decided to go with something that probably none of you know: It's the self-titled first album by the German band Ideal, from 1980. They are usually named as a Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW) band, like Nena or Trio, but that wasn't a coherent movement anyway, but rather something to market. It was among the first records that I bought and perhaps the one I like best in that bunch. I have the original pressing that was released on an independent label and is played at 45 RPMs. Ideal are still my favorite band starting with the letter I, Interpol, The Incredible String Band or Incubus notwithstanding. The song "Blaue Augen" (that's "blue eyes", but nothing like the Elton John song) is still played on the radio. Ideal were from Berlin, which of course was still a separated city at the time. Both the style of the music and the lyrics were heavily influenced by the atmosphere that must've existed there. ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V18 #180 ********************************
