New 180gm vinyl means (potentially) more bass and, well, more frequencies than the flimsy 1980s vinyl could muster. I've never had a vinyl copy of ACOBs, but the original pressings of UM and IHs are weak and flimsy. I'm wiling to bet Robyn owns rights, tapes, and stampers (and high-res digital transfers?) from the UM reissue that Matador did a while back, so I'm not expecting too much new out of this latest reissue. As for if they're remastered, who knows. I've got an email in to Yep Roc asking if master tapes were used, was a new mix done and if new stampers were cut, who mixed and pressed, and so on. If the vinyl was cut from a CD, it's gonna suck eggs. The last time I asked Yep Roc some geeky questions, they actually forwarded them to RH and sent me the answer. I'm buying the ACOBs LP anyway, but it'd be nice to know more detail. And it'd be doubly nice if it's punched up a bit, too, as FYTC said. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Sep 2010 15:41:23 -0400 From: m swedene Subject: Re: Sudden Soft Boys Re-Issues Go Gene! mike On Wed, Sep 1, 2010 at 2:20 PM, Gene Hopstetter, Jr. wrote: > > From: Miles Goosens > > Subject: Re: Sudden Soft Boys Re-Issues > > > > Is there really a reason for those of us who were previously up-to-date > on the Soft Boys reissues to buy it? > > New 180gm vinyl means (potentially) more bass and, well, more frequencies > than the flimsy 1980s vinyl could muster. It doesn't have a plural. A very fun concept, mind you. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.wordpress.com ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V18 #169 ********************************
