Colleen is a monster Robyn fan, and did the merch at the last two Toronto shows. This album/set/band/concept has been brewing since at least 2006, when I saw her & Paul support BP Helium. I liked it well enough, but I think it may be something that you need to have discovered at the time. When I listen to new music, I always try to find connections to music I'm already familiar with. The act this reminded me of the most is the Jazz Butcher, both musically (if only to a degree) and attitude-wise. I saw the Jazz Butcher many, many times and feel a kind of personal bond to the music, but I don't think someone listening to those records now for the first time would be able to get the same out of them. Obviously there are other musicians and records that don't require this sense of familiarity or camaraderie. I'm not sure what that says about either type of artist, but it's clear to me that this difference exists ... Nuppy: I know exactly what you mean! Strange, but the same happened to me upon discovering the Jazz Butcher a few years ago. I discovered them too late. I haven't heard enough of the Jazz Butcher to give up on them yet... From what I've heard, Eligible Bachelors is the most 'Jazz Butcher' like album they did. My favorite is the more raw 1st album from 1980 Strange Boutique. Sebastian: Something else: a few of the tracks had very long silence at the end, which I find extremely irritating. Is that intentional? Nuppy: No. Very irritating. I didn't notice this before, so thanks for pointing it out. My Nero ripper must suck. Here is a re-rip of the 2 songs with long silence at the end: http://www.sendspace.com/file/bm5un6 The Devil Rides Out (one of the re-rips here) is sung in some ancient unknown tongue. I can't remember the story behind it... - -Nuppy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Aug 2010 09:48:10 -0500 From: Sumiko Keay Subject: Facebook craziness Raymond Gorman (That Petrol Emotion) just friended me on facebook.
