I was able to get tickets today but not the gems that I would have liked. I want to listen to any and all Howard Devoto + the first Psychedelic Furs album! My son is now wandering the CERN compound, where all the streets are named after physicists. He says that the cafeteria, which looks out on the Alps, is broadcasting the World Cup on the wall. Now I'll be ordering my daughter B&S tix for their Chicago concert. Can't believe she'll be so far away. Thanks, BTW, to Chris Hintz for making my whole family B&S addicts about 5 years ago. Jeez, it's been that long. Oh yeah, everyone should be listening to Rex's 39-40 project. It's so fun. Jill ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jun 2010 08:37:44 -0700 From: "John B. Of course I'm only 1/4 of the way through this Year of Daily Covers; I might be well sick of it by then. But if WE do this, it should be like meta-Glass Flesh, and we should be insane enough to eventually have alternate versions of every RH studio LP in the can. (Does anyone just sit and watch SNL? I assume most people either don't bother at all, or just record it so they can finish it off in 20-30 minutes sometime on Sunday. There's no reason the WUWT sketches should work, but there's something really nice about them. They aren't really funny, but they're endearing, in a deranged and stupid sort of way. Keenan Thompson's even actually enjoyable in them.) "I love how (coffee) makes me feel. For future generations. > And for science. Anyway: yes, that would be a mad and wonderful plan. I think it might be fun to sort of duplicate Rex's strategy at 39-40: maybe get a list of contributors, then set a period of time (a track a week? month?), then randomly assign tracks from a particular album (perhaps do the records chronologically?). We could do it in advance-ish so people who are busy or slow (raises hand) could still do it - if I knew I had to cover "Wafflehead" by the end of August, I could manage that...but probably not if I only knew it on August 15. But I do like the idea of letting some Ungodly Force of Randomness choose who covers what... - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.wordpress.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jun 2010 16:24:56 -0400 From: "Stewart C. Unbelievable show tonight. Just Robyn and his Fylde. Great sound at the Drake downstairs. On great form; full of elliptical musings. Unusual and charming set: stuff like I got the Hots for You, iodot, Ghost Ship, mexican god, bass, red locust frenzy, a manKs gotta know ... - reminded me a lot of the sets he used to play at the Edinburgh Festival. Best of all was the encore: all covers. Barrett, morrison, isb, drake. All awesome. Haven't been this stoked about a live show in ages. Will likely go to the instore tomorrow, and have my ticket for tomorrow.
