It's Springsteen's "Van Morrison" album. In college, a friend made me a c90 of ASTRAL WEEKS and MOONDANCE. My main reaction to it was "now I know where the parts of the first two Springsteen albums that weren't Dylan came from!" Also confirmed what has so far been a lifelong indifference to Van Morrison. But I do love me some THE WILD, THE INNOCENT, & THE E STREET SHUFFLE. "Incident on 57th Street" especially. Unlike a lot of endorsements of early Springsteen, this is no veiled swipe at his more famous stuff, cuz I'd pick DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN first, second, third, and twice every Tuesday, not to mention BtR, THE RIVER, and NEBRASKA. I also think Springsteen is on a three-album winning streak right now, maybe four if that Seeger covers album counts. And yes, that means that I like WORKING ON A DREAM lots and lots, including and especially "Queen of the Supermarket," even if that marks me as even more of a perverse weirdo than you already think I am. My two cents on this proposed list activity: Make it easy. Do something digital that anyone can download in a few clicks. Having someone put up a mix, or making the "book club" album of the month available via mp3, is the way to go. The more obstacles, the fewer participants. later, Miles - -- over a year of feeling guilty about not blogging enough! http://readingpronunciation.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jun 2010 16:59:02 -0400 From: m swedene Subject: Re: Thoughts.... My thoughts on this are this: We would come up with 4 albums a month. One per week. Upload the album to Megaupload or something so everyone can listen, who wants to. Then we can chat about it whenever. I have the recommendations from the group so far, and will let people know soon. I have a road trip to Buffalo tomorrow afternoon, so it would be good to listen to something old as new again. Us old-timers already know what each of us thinks about almost everything. But like any old bat it's a bat it's a bat it's a Feg, I don't mind repeating myself, whether I remember I've said it before or not. I already have a couple of good Feg-friendly ideas for the album-club format, so I'm ready to rock some suggestions once Mr. Swedene is ready for some hot torch-passing action. At least one of y picks would be pitilessly mocked by Eb were he still here, but that only makes me more committed to putting it in the hat. later, Miles - -- over a year of feeling guilty about not blogging enough! http://readingpronunciation.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jun 2010 07:28:07 -0700 From: Rex Subject: The High Feg Council or some shit Re: Feggy book club: I'd bet almost as many are eager to "nominate" albums as are ready to participate. We have a good starting strategy, but here's an idea of how to go forward... Anyone who *wants* to suggest an album *gets* to, in turn. We'd just have to identify ourselves and create a list of fegs, and then go in turn, weekly probably, in some agreed-upon order, alphabetical being as good as any. Someone drops the ball and doesn't elect a record a day or so into their turn, it's on the next committee member. You can opt in any time; your name would just get slotted into the list in the same order as the rest of us. Sensible enough? Like the American Music Anthology, it sounds fun! - -Rex ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V18 #111 ********************************
