(of course, i also feel that janet weiss, danny carey, and morris windsor are the most valuable members of their respective combos; so you may prefer to take it with a grain of salt.) more generally, it's a bit frightening to note how quickly this album is growing on me. it usually takes a coupla months for each new new pornos album to make me wanna crap somebody's pants every time i listen to it. i'm not ready, yet, to declare it their best record. but i think it's at least tied for second. and, i think it's their finest sonic achievement. (whether that owes to the production, the arrangements, or the recording technology, i don't know.) all that said, i think they really blew it titling the record *Together* rather than *Crash Years*. (i've no idea, to be clear, that the latter was ever in the running. just jumps out at me as the friggin' perfect choice.) i'm considering re-tagging it to that very name, in fact. but not quite sure i'm ready to go there. y'all may recall that i very strongly advocate jigging tags to suit one's particular tastes, especially as concerns intentional or unintentional misspellings and grammar errors. but changing album-titles and/or running orders is a road i've not yet trod. Don McGlashan's worth seeing too... - ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Anton Barbeau Date: Fri, May 21, 2010 at 6:44 AM Subject: tix on sale now for Don McGlashan in London (Ant supporting!), other tender bits To: anton-barbeau-news@smoe.org *TIX ON SALE FOR DON McGLASHAN, ANT (WITH ANDY AND MORRIS SUPPORTING)* Don McGlashan from New Zealand's late, great Mutton Birds is playing Dingwall's in London on July 22 and I'm on the bill as one of the support acts. As if that ain't great enough, I'll have Andy Metcalfe and Morris Windsor playing along with me. DAMN! I've done one gig with Morris and two so far with Andy, but we haven't all three played together yet. Tickets are on sale already, and the show will most likely sell out. While it'll be brilliant to play in front of Don's crowd, it'd be extra good for me to have actual Antfans there to see what, at least in my universe, is a pretty historic line-up all around. To make it easier for you, the promoter is offering tickets at half-price for Antfans. Go to this link... * * * http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=gb_london&query=detail&event=384937+ * and enter "*banana*" as the promotional code. They've only got a small number of these discounted tix set aside, so please jump quick! *OTHER STRAY GIGS* I'm doing a warm-up show in Oxford with Andy and Morris on June 9 at the Wheatsheaf. Even sooner, I'm back in Berlin for more gigs. June 2nd I'm at Cafe Ici and on June 3 it's Pankow 16. Both of these are new venues to me, so adventurings afoot. *PSYCHEDELIC MYNDE OF MOSES updat*e Regarding my next record "Psychedelic Mynde of Moses" and my plan to self-release it with your help via the Pledgemusic.com site, everything has been bumped back a bit. Broyhill, my mastering God, is moving to Sweden. My album was going to be one his final projects before relocating, but he got ill and had to cancel the session. Also, my graphic artist went a bit awol. Then I got sick and and and. Thing is, I don't want to run this Pledgemusic campaign in my normal casual-to-sloppy manner, so it's best to just wait until all the elements are back in position. Besides, it's not like there ain't a million other ting going on right now! I'll write again next week with more details about the Berlin gigs and any other updates. Hope you're each and all well - there's a creepy bug going around, so wash your hair twice as often!
