[Jeremy Osner Subject: Do It Again We went to see the documentary Do It Again at the International Film Festival in Boston (actually Somerville) on Saturday night. It's all about a Boston Globe reporter's quest to reunite the Kinks. It was amazingly funny, poignant, and fast moving. Many of our rock icons were in it (Robyn, the Venus 3 but not with Robyn, Paul Weller, Zooey Deschanel, and more), and Robyn was pretty hilarious (something about rock bands having their finite run time "like a sneeze or an orgasm"). My husband thought it was great, and he's just a casual Kinks fan, so if you have the opportunity, GO! And if there is a film festival in your area, ask them to get it. The name of the journalist is Geoff Edgers, and you can even support his cause at kickstarter (or go to doitagainthemovie.com). Directly across the street from the theater at the exact same time, Graham Parker did an early gig with the Figgs backing him. They came to the after party, and, between sets of Kinks songs covered by two bands, GP got up and did Soul Shoes. I couldn't believe it. What a great night. I sure haven't; it seems Sartorial/Yep Roc did not send out promo copies to Pitchfork, A.V. Club, Rolling Stone, or any of the other major music outlets that typically review Robyn's albums. What's up with that? He finally makes an album worth the public's attention after Ole Tarantula, and his label doesn't promote it. It seems there's always something holding Robyn back from public exposure. Steve _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail has tools for the New Busy. Regardless: this definitely seems a weirdly sub-rosa release. I don't think Yep Roc is actually releasing it so much as distributing it, and of course Sartorial is hardly a major force in the industry... And of course it actually predates GO in some respects...seems one of those "fan-only" not-quite-official releases almost... I'd love to review it, if only Yep Roc would send me my fucking copy!
