One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs. - Kung Fu Monkey ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Apr 2010 03:53:17 +0000 From: Michael Sweeney Subject: Re: Only the Stones remain (actual RH question, shock horror!) (see also: the intersections of The Rutles and RH (i.e., "Leppo"), what to do to engage and occupy a Chicago/Evanston-visiting potential college student and her family (ask Jill), and, if it EVER comes up, any connections between Robyn and the Cubs (uh...1974 pretty much sucked for both of 'em?)...) Ok - as the local RH / Lindsey Buckingham expert, I can - at least - direct you to Lindsey covering said Stones song, on his (excellent!) '06 "Under the Skin" record. And - not from that, but similar (and live), here is his rendition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRt3jJAT-NQ Back then, he (LB) was touring around the same time as RH&V3...and (when budgetary crapola wasn't so tight) we even journeyed to Philly to catch their day-apart shows (after seeing them both here in Chicago, too); the Philly RH show is where I and my friends got blown off by local Fegs - even after describing ourselves and saying where we'd be sitting! - but, uh, that's another story...(still bitter? nah, just teasing...) Hi all... I know I haven't been as actively posting or even responding out here lately (BTW, yes, "IODOT" / "Feg" / "EOL" for me; I have no problems w/ "PI" or "Respect"; LOVE "Eye" & "IODOT," but dislike "Luxor" (but like "One L" - named a very long, very personal short story after it))...and I know I've been a bit of a grumbly downer lately (more than usual? hmm...) But it struck me yesterday that maybe 1/3 of my Facebook friends are Fegs...and lately it is them...YOU - so many of you, who have most-often reached out to me, and, even casually, have helped buoy me along through a couple of very tough months in my life...whether it is chiming in sunnily (and almost instantly) out there with RH (or others') lyrics, commenting cogently on something musical or even political, or even (and very special personal thanks to a few of you!) checking in personally directly with me as I continue to wrestle with all that's going on in and around me... ...So, I just wanted to say a hearty, heart-felt "Thanks!" (AND even an always-appropriate "Fuck You, Tom Clark!")...and, of course, "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past..." Later, pals & pal-ettes... Yep, FB is this weird confluence of the feglist, my blogging friends, my rl friends and family. It has been weird to mix the strangeness of you lot with the the relatively humdrum lives of my high school friends and the high tech world of my work friends. I finally bothered to find my first feg post: September 2, 1994. If anything, thanks to FB, my life is richer with fegs now than at any other time in those 15+ years. And you're all a lot better looking than you used to be (face it, some of you were never meant to be seen in plain text).
