Yup, that's right. So far I've seen only one of those, namely "Claire's Knee". I'm more familiar with his work from the mid-80s onwards, because I watched all of them as they came into theaters. > i think i'll go > unfile them (which doesn't mean i'll watch them any time soon, but > given that "jules and jim" is up next, perhaps i'll take that as a > sign to watch contemplative french people sitting about talking (and > talking) (and talking).) Yeah, that's what it's all about! As I just wrote on FB, I got a 6-DVD boxset a while ago that I haven't even started to watch yet. It's mostly the "Comedies and Proverbs" cycle ... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Jan 2010 11:29:41 -0500 (EST) From: djini@voicenet.com Subject: Re: Martinverse Sebastian wrote: >> >> Yeah, I think editing this behemoth must be quite the task. Since I spent the last year editing an anthology, that is the sort of thing that I notice. Side note: the last time I edited an anthology was sometime in the late 90s, and I have to say that electronic editing is nowhere near as fun as sending physical pages back and forth. No doubt it's faster but I kind of missed the connection of working on the same sheets. Not to mention that keeping 18 authors and 3 editors on the same page (sorry) is... challenging, without dealing with all the technical issues. >> It's fairly >> clear that the destructive chaos afflicting the world was started by a >> rape, after all. > > Do we know that for certain? You're talking about Lyanna, right? Yup. There is a lot of speculation about her state of mind and it's one of the surprises GRRM is keeping dark, but whether or not she was willing the *perception* that she was abducted was the final excuse for overthrowing the ruling house (which, granted, was probably going to occur sooner or later). If anyone else cares, I'm being pretty careful not to spoil - all this is backstory. I am very curious to see how HBO deals with all the exposition. I hope everyone is enjoying the non-linear form of this discussion! Jeanne ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jan 2010 12:04:13 +1300 From: James Dignan Subject: Finally got round to... Bernard Butler's solo work is amazing too in a melancholic way.
