That's the good news. Yes, that show bugs me. Yes, I think she has a not-so-secret plan to take over the world. Why would I listen to that crap when I already have perfectly good Stooges and Velvet Underground albums? I do wish I had seen their one-second-before-they-were-famous Nashville show, but only so I could have used this one-line review: "Accepted Strokes, left." (That one goes out to all you Game Theory fans out there.) Still haven't knowingly heard a note the Libertines have played. I think I've only heard the Arctic Monkeys on a commercial or somethin'. I wish I thought that P.J. Harvey album was that great. I sooooo loved RID OF ME, but I haven't found much to love since. It's like she's going the way of her idol Patti: a much better idea than an actual listening experience. Had my hopes up for STORIES... but I can't recall a thing about it. I'll certainly give the NME list its eclecticism, and it's a fun read, with lots of stuff that I might not have expected. Glad to have it linked. Quick thoughts below. Happy with: Interpol Yeah Yeah Yeahs Radiohead The Streets Wilco (you know, the one before I broke up with them) Green Day Sigur Ros Bjork (though I've sorta lost touch in recent years) Wish I liked, but still don't: Arcade Fire Surfin'... um, Sufjan Stevens Queens of the Stone Age Grandaddy Rufus Wainwright Belle & Sebastian Broken Social Scene Still can't stand: Ryan Adams Bright Eyes Vampire Weekend The Shins A better musical decade than the one that proceeded it, but not a patch on the '70s or '80s. I don't want to be one of those people who only likes the music of his or her youth, I really don't. But I think I really am. later, Miles - -- over a year of feeling guilty about not blogging enough! http://readingpronunciation.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Nov 2009 17:56:50 -0800 From: kevin studyvin Subject: Re: Reap Fwd: News Alert: Oprah Winfrey to End her Talk Show On Thu, Nov 19, 2009 at 4:21 PM, lep wrote: > "The Oprah Winfrey Show". > > That's the good news. That's a really nice little piece of work. It's not enough that she has a TV show (even though she's ending it) and a magazine *on whose cover she appears every damned month*, now she wants her own cable network? Good lord. I mean, seriously: any of you try to imagine having a magazine whose cover you're on every month and try not to giggle at the sheer ridiculousness of the very idea? Gack.
