For the feg/folkie crossover let us say. This video of Arlo and Pete playing "Amazing Grace" in the late 70's is utterly entrancing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqC0XGAk1is&feature=related enjoy, J ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Oct 2009 15:09:05 +0000 (UTC) From: michaeljbachman@comcast.net Subject: Certain to be in my Top 10 reissue list for 2009. I've had the original for a while, but I'm thinking a remaster would be worthwhile. That would require me to be watching FRINGE. I have no objection to doing so, but I haven't started with it, and it seems like one of those shows that should be watched from the beginning, so it has to wait for me to get s1 DVDs from Netflix, which means it has to wait for me to finish several other series in the queue ahead of it. > np "Flanagan's Song" i.e., the good part of SPOOKED. Here's hoping Viv buys and likes the V3 albums. later, Miles, who's looking forward to buying his Robyn @ the Bluebird ticket at 8 AM tomorrow morning - -- now with blogspot retsin! http://readingpronunciation.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Oct 2009 20:21:10 -0400 From: Jeremy Osner Subject: Movie talk I saw two movies this weekend (saw one and "am seeing" one, taking a break for child putting-to-bed), very different from one another but both very nice to watch, are "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" on the big screen and "La Pointe Courte" on the small. (A Varda weekend in one respect, which is that Friday evening we saw "Comme Toujours Here I Stand" -- which was a fun time without being the masterpiece I was sort of vaguely hoping for going in.) Going back to watch the latter now but would be glad to chat about either of those later on. Also, whether anyone has watched "A Serious Man" and what they thought about it? I was thinking I would see that this weekend but apparently it is not released to a large market outside NYC and Los Angeles yet. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Oct 2009 20:57:44 -0500 From: michael wells Subject: Re: Portland Setlist 10/08/09 A fine, sloppy RAWK show indeed! KOL, Brenda and Strawberry Fields were the definite highlights for me. And as usual, feg company remains unequaled. Had a swell evening the next night at a mixed media event at The Woods, though surely the appearance of three such handsome, erudite and spear-bald men in Viv's wake set tongues wagging. Add the Sunday trip to Apple Music to acquire some zesty new Rics and the weekend could only be called an unqualified success. Huzzah! Russell" Subject: Robyn's dad's movie - with soundtrack by Ray Davies Just watched "Percy" - the slightly coy sex farce written by Raymond Hitchcock. It's better than it should have been, but not as good as it could have been. Some unfortunate use of stereotypes for humour. Very 1971 fashions, though - some ill-advised (Hywel Bennett's lace-up jerkin?), some far less so. Looks like the last mention of this on the list was 14 years ago. It's a fairly harmless waste of an evening. Soundtrack's great. I really need to listen to more of Ray and the boys.
