I'm curious, you > said you knew how to do this on Windows - how? > The "search" function (in Windows) allows certain variables including file location and date modified. Actually I'm not sure it would work (I can't recall whether there's a setting to include the whole filepath)...what I want is a backup folder that, if my original fails, could be pressed into service as my iTunes library (same arrangement of files & folders, without having to have iTunes rearrange the entire library in its "reorganize files" function by moving tracks into folders named after their albums, etc.) In other words, if I change data on a track/file, ideally that would bring along the upward-chained album and album-artist folders... Sebastian had asked why I didn't just use Time Machine: after some research, it appears that while you can set TM to back up from one external drive to another, that works only if the drives are formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Because my iTunes lives on an external drive that I originally used with my old PC, and because either I chose the wrong format to reformat to or it wouldn't reformat to that format (can't remember now - I vaguely recall it was the second for some reason), it won't be read by TM. (It's MS-DOS (FAT32)...) So if I wanted to use TM, it looks like I'd have to reformat the drive - which would, of course, require rebuilding the 600GB library, which took a couple of days the first time I did it. I'll have to look into the other suggested approaches... I'm kinda guessing no matter what I do, rebuilding the library if need be from its backup would still take loads of time...so maybe I should just let the changed files live on the backup wherever, and when the library is rebuilt, let iTunes "reorganize" thingy rebuild the album and album-artist folders... Ultimately, what may happen is this: my library is approaching the limit of its 750GB home...so I may buy a new, larger drive and format it correctly from the beginning, and use that drive as iTunes' home. Eventually, it's likely I'll have to do that in any event. Fortunately, drives are relatively cheap...but damn that library takes a long time to build! Last year's Emmys, to be more specific. I wouldn't have complained if she wore the same dress this year! No problems implied with this year's number, to be sure: Anyway, I think I'm being asked to state my PEGGY SUICIDE dissent. I don't feel like belaboring it, but PS has never worked for me. I don't think it's a horrible album. I'm just not interested in it. I give it another try every year, and I always zone out sometime during "East Easy Rider" and wake up in time to realize that "Las Vegas Basement" is a really great song. I wish my opinion had changed over the last 18 years, but it still leaves me mostly cold. Otherwise, I'm a huge fan of Cope's from the Teardrop Explodes through the '90s, I love all the releases surrounding PEGGY SUICIDE, and I even think a strong argument could be made for Cope as the best artist of the '90s. JEHOVAHKILL and 20 MOTHERS are on my short list of the best of that decade, and Copey still tops my list of "artists I've never seen live that I'd really, really like to see before one of us exits the planet." Nevertheless, PS is still a "meh" to me. But hey, since y'all know that I truly love GROOVY DECAY, my opinions are inherently dubious. later, Miles - -- now with blogspot retsin! http://readingpronunciation.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Sep 2009 00:18:43 +0000 (UTC) From: michaeljbachman@comcast.net Subject: Re: Deluxe 2 cd digitally remastered UK reissue of Peggy Suicide with 11 bonus cuts.
