He was talking about celebrity obsessions... it was something like "it doesn't matter who you're hung up on; it might be me or it might be Pawler Ab-Dool". (In fact Bruford & Fripp, one of those teams ... Tangentially related (and I'm with you 100% on Bruford/Fripp), I saw the Adrian Belew Power Trio live this past weekend. Ade's such a goofball, and so full of energy and makes just about every damn thing he does look so easy and casual and fun,... and those kids he's got in his trio, though obviously also having a stonking good time, have to work to keep up with him. Show opener was Big Electric Cat, Crimson covers were Dinosaur, Neurotica (epic harmonic density there), and Three of a Perfect Pair in the encore. The recording came out nice - so far as I've listened to a couple sample segments - and I hope to have it up on Dime within a week or two; I'll probably wait until the new disc is out this coming weekend, since they did a good chunk of it. It didn't occur to me until the day after the show that it's been almost exactly 20 years since I first saw Adrian live - it was July of 1989, at Jake's in Bloomington, IN. The drummer in his band then was a dead ringer for Tony Levin - and Adrian jokingly introduced him as TLev, prompting a sharp intake of breath and a, "...Naaaaaaawwwwwwww." from the audience. da9ve ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jul 2009 12:01:01 -0400 From: ross Subject: Re: iTunes 45s Jason Brown wrote: >>> That hasn't been the case for about four months now, so I guess you're in? >>> >> Really? Metadata doesn't bug me, but lossy compression of any sort does. I'm still not in at more than a nickel apiece if I don't get all the sound. What's the excuse for selling munged sound when there's lossless compression? If I want to throw away bits to fit the stuff on my portable devices, I'll do it myself. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jul 2009 12:15:36 -0400 From: ross Subject: who's hot on keyboards? Dave Stewart (the Hatfield and the North one).
