As part of the agreement, TicketsNow, owned by Ticketmaster, will also close 100 websites that tricked customers into believing that they were purchasing directly from the concert venue. Though the $50,000 fine is relatively small (perhaps convenience fees will triple it), the biggest win is for consumers. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan stated, "This agreement will substantially impact how the TicketsNow online brokers market popular event tickets so that consumers clearly understand that they are making purchases from a ticket reseller at marked-up rates." Making a purchase from one of these deceptive websites is easier than you'd imagine, especially since Ticketmaster used to direct consumers to TicketsNow before reaching a settlement with the New Jersey Attorney General earlier this year. Before that change, my parents were duped into paying more than double the face value for Lion King tickets at a site similar to TicketsNow. They only found out about the huge price difference when the tickets arrived and it was clear that they were for the cheapest seats to the show; which were still available at their face value from Ticketmaster and the venue. While many consumers will still express concerns over the various fees that Ticketmaster charges and its merger with LiveNation; this agreement will save concertgoers a lot of cash going forward -- which can then be spent on really cool t-shirts. http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2009/07/01/ticketmaster-fined-for-deceptive-pr actices-agrees-to-play-nice/?icid=main|htmlws-main|dl3|link5|http%3A%2F%2Fww w.walletpop.com%2Fblog%2F2009%2F07%2F01%2Fticketmaster-fined-for-deceptive-p ractices-agrees-to-play-nice%2F my blog is "Yer Blog" http://fab4yerblog.blogspot.com/ http://robotsarestealingmyluggage.blogspot.com/ **************Dell Summer Savings: Cool Deals on Popular Laptops b Shop Now! Do as I do: Sign up for the digest, set message filters to file the digests automatically into a sub-folder ...and then never read them. It's easy, and hardly hurts at all. True, I do dip in every now and again to see how things are going in Fegland (like now, for example), but I believe you'll find it comforting to know that all those digests are just *there*, should you ever need them. (Well OK, you probably won't, but still...) And don't go denigrating lurkers neither. Us lurkers are the salt of the earth; the dark matter of the list. Believe me, without lurkers the Feg List would simply fly apart under the pressure of its own wit and bile. In fact, what I am trying to say is, the list needs you. Woj needs you. I was a Fujichrome boy back in the day, and B&W before that, but it was always a huge hassle. My enlarger and trays made it from the UK to California twenty years ago, but never made it out of the attic. It wasn't until digital really became viable that I started to get interested in photography again. The freedom and flexibility of the medium (and tools like Lightroom and Photoshop) have made it possible to finally realize the vision I always had. Even the simplest things like straightening and cropping were nightmares when you were trying to get a lab to make a Cibachrome print from a slide. Now there is no limit to where you can take a digital negative. And I can make the highest possible quality prints at home. So no, I won't shed a tear. No regrets. Fallible memory suggests it was. This extraordinary movie seems to me like what you might get if David Lynch directed a movie based on Annie Proulx' short stories. The way of getting in under the legend of the West and drawing out the insanity and damage that underlies it, very distinctly Lynchian; and there were scenes that felt like they were lifted directly from Proulx. For it all to be based on old newspaper stories was the icing on the cake. Not exactly an engaging movie - -- I had to watch it a couple of times before I was able to really get into it -- but well worth your time and effort to get engaged in it. I am very interested in taking a look at the book. Also, the "Making of Wisconsin Death Trip" movie that's included on the same disk, hilarious and disorienting.
