I wanted to share the interview I did with Robyn this past weekend on WRSU FM New Brunswick, the Rutgers University station. I don't know if he shares much that diehards won't already know, but he is fantastically entertaining to listen to and speak with in any event. Robyn surprised an actual laugh out of Bill with "And now Mr. Over Easy is going to drag this song (in?) like a tranquilized moose over which he has poured a couple of gallons of fire water." Argh, I can't remember which song that was! Bill got this priceless "I'm going to what in the who now?" look on his face. > BTW, my least favourite robyn shirt: the polka dot shit, by a country mile. The black one, Carrie. Lauren's right about his hair though, he was like a Pantene commercial up there. Now I'm imagining a real Pantene commercial starring Robyn. I wouldn't take a couple of idiot Decemberist fans too much to heart, Jill. On the whole the audience was respectful, head-bobbing, and, as Lauren said, quite full for an opening band. The drunken hat girl's date had never heard of Robyn but he was really into it and my friend Ron (sitting next to him) gave him some backstory. My impression was that there were a lot of people there to see Robyn, who stayed for the Decemberists. Now, if what's really putting you off is all the incomprehensible operatics, well, what can I say - maybe they'll get it out of their systems eventually. The show was really fun - Robyn introduced all the band members as various types of eggs - - he was Mr. Scrambled, Scott was Mr. Lightly Poached, Bill was Mr. Over Easy, and Peter was Mr. Sunny Side Up - I think I have that right, but we had a terrible usher who kept messing up the seat assignments and I had to stand up several times during this bit. Lauren, if your recollection is better, please correct! The Decemberists did their ProgOpera thing, straight through, with costumes and all - you really should check out the video, it was very entertaining to see.
